The decal in the van says Three Continent Adventure: Europe, Asia, North Africa with the tour number- I mentioned it in a thread a while back, but can't track down much on it other than that the caravan did happen. There is a service stamp in the van's manual from somewhere in Greece.

The rough sketch would certainly be appreciated- guess I'm more visual- what a neat looking rig!

The caravan you Vanagon was on is listed in the WBCCI Directory as Overseas Caravan O-13 Europe, Africa & Asia 1980. Unfortunately, there is no good way to search the current Membership Directory to determine in any participants are still members. Maybe the WBCCI Office in Jackson Center could turn up a list of participants from their old records. You might then be able to contact any that might still be listed in the current directory.

P.S. By chance I was randomly poking around in the 2009 Membership Directory and I came upon one member listed as participating on O-13 (and there may be more)! But all I've got is an address. Contact me by IM or email if you want that info.

P.P.S. Here is a link to your original thread about your Vanagaon: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f368...van-35353.html

And here is another thread in which you asked for information about the O-13 caravan (see posts beginning at #64): http://www.airforums.com/forums/f286...tml#post437673

When Pee Wee first started posting he was a little hesitant, now he is the life of the party, keep it going. I can’t wait to see what he pulls out of the box of pictures next.

Would you say that the AV's were the first, maybe only, Airstream Truck Campers since there was no connection between the cab and the living space. Or is that what Pee Wee meant when he referred to it as a camper. Seems that it would be a permanently mounted truck camper.

Consider the Scout Vehicle a permanently mounted camper to the truck frame. Or a "Class C" with no connection between the cab and the mounted living quarters.

Either definition tells you about the vehicle.

Sinage Change Wally's Truck and Aux Vehicles

The Caravan to Africa was billed as Africa, Bibleland, and Europe. We were to be in Bethlehem by Christmas Eve. We made it to Asmara, Eritrea by Christmas Eve.

A very interesting thing happened in Cape Town. The signage of Wally's truck and two of the auxiliary vehicles read the "Bibleland." When we reached Central Africa the signage was no longer "Bibleland," but "Near East."

To the best of my knowledge the changeover was made in South Africa. Wally had been tuned in to the socio/political/religious implications of the phrase "Bibleland". By the time we reached the nations of concern we were, if you wish, the first of the "politically correct" Americans.

Yes, indeed! Let's always be politically correct. Humph!

Now don't you feel like you have witnesses something spectacular when Pee Wee posts these gems. I am going to have the good fortune to spend a few days camping with Pee Wee very soon. I plan on bringing a big pile of wood for the campfire. I hear rumor a campfire really draws the stories out of him.

Frank,
Maybe you should video or audio record these fireside stories and start an archive. It would be great to hear / see a first person account of the early days of Caravaning.

I enjoyed hearing PeeWee on the VAP and would love to see some vidoe footage.

Frank I was thinking of the same thing. If you grab some footage I will edit it. If you think you may want to do this with Pee Wee's approval of course PM me.

Thanks
