1959 African Caravan Movie Footage

If you watch this film it is a good primer for tonights History Detectives program on the Airstream that may or many not have gone on the 1959 Wally Byam Caravan to Africa.

It is worth watching. The film's footage has been used to fit with the dialogue. The film is the trip to Africa, the dialogue is used to tell a story. Some of the sequencing is for story telling.

Enjoy...and enjoy History Detectives.

PeeWee...

Great show, just watched it. I thought the overall description of Wally's whole caravan concept was great!

Made me proud to be an owner (again!)....

Thanks,
At the time I posted this thread there were two available versions of the film. The one listed was the original film as it was released in 1960 or 1961.

The second version was released by Airstream with their book, Wanderlust, Airstream at 75. This version was a remake of the film for a television travel program. It will give you a retake of the African Caravan. It is narrated by Jose Ferrar. However, they took creative liberties in their editing.

You might be able to buy a copy of the second version from Airstream.

We have a copy that we are going to show on a drive-in movie screen at our August rally in Sutherlin Oregon. The campground is an old Drive-In movie theater. We are even doing the end of the Caravan dinner. Pee Wee had posted the menu so we are going all the way with period clothes, ladies, get out your white gloves. This should be FUN. If anyone would like to join us pm me for details. , we are almost full but dry dock is open.
Back to subject, I will see if I can make a good copy and get it to the 4cu for their rally.

Anthony - I too have a copy of the show. Let me know if you'd like a copy to show at the September in the Pines rally and I'll get it out to you.

Blue Pearl - now that sounds like a grand time. Sure wish we could attend.

That would be great! Anthony has been working on getting a projector to run off his laptop, and has a screen and large amplifier. Thought it would be great to have at the rally. Let me know if I need to send funds for it-again thank-you-T
