1956 Airstream Flying Cloud?

Hi folks, we are new members with our 89 excella and appreciate all of the help with my towing questions. We have towed it about 1000 miles so far and everything said and advised has been right on the money-thanks! Today I acquired a 1956 airstream 26' with the whale tail on the rear without a title (probably very stupid on my part). I just could not believe how perfect the exterior condition was. It is serial # 6631, and the original owner: an Albert Patterson of Lewiston, NY was member #1741 of the caravan club. What model would this be? Any advice on trying to obtain a title? Any advice on how to tell my wife?Thanks-Trey, South Carolina

What is the reason the seller gave for not having a title?

Not a Flying Cloud...probably not a 1956 with that number. I think its an Overlander at 26 feet. Now you better have the time and fortitude for the job ahead. You will have fun and enjoy it. Paperwork first.

My l968 Airstream did not have a title - lost over the years I guess. I went to the Florida State Police and had them run the serial number. After hours and hours of trying to get a title from Florida (the trailer had been titled here in the 60's, 70's and 80's) no luck. Florida changed the system over in the 80's and has no records in the computer system. After lost of wasted time I saw a post here for Broadway Title. Went on line - did the paperwork - title from the State of Maine arrived about 10 days later. Went over to the Florida DMV and got a Florida title immediately. Broadway Title is on line.

My Cruiser in 1954 is the last, 25'/26', a "crossing" model. In 1955 and 1956 the models Cruiser/Overlander 26' and from 1957 were called only Overlander.
Cruiser in 1956 is not possible....
Greetings Werner

All right boss, I wants no war, grin....
Anyway it is a rarity and I congratulate muletuff quite warmly to his vintage Airstream, all the same how he is called.

Not going to get in a back and forth with Melody Ranch, but the Archive says that 1955 was serial number 6500 - 6600. The 1956 serial number is 6NNN. There is no clear starting point.
If this were a Ohio built trailer the numbers would be much easier to understand. So what is your 26 footer SER# 6631? Melody says 55, I 56. Who is right? How about some pictures so we can put this puppy to rest.

Mine cruiser has the number 6483, behind the bed crosswise put (to see in the archive). A narrow high window by the bed. Tinman54: in his Cruiser the beds along and by the bed are a normal window.Maybe there was at that time special implementation by customer wish?
Till this day I still found nobody cruiser in 1954 like mine.

Tim, in that era, I believe, one could still walk into the factory and have the interior drawn out on a piece of paper then built as you wanted it.

I am sure that Frank would know way more about this than me. I am just guessing because of the serial # 6631 is at the cusp of the short California production run. Tim owns one...so He really knows best. Regardless....its sure a nice one to have.
