The Henry Ford Trailwind

Over Thanksgiving my family and I went to Michigan to visit my sister-in-law. While there, we stopped by a fantastic museum called simply "The Henry Ford" It encompasses a large area including Greenfield Village and other attractions. They are in the process of redoing the automotive collection area (scheduled to open on 28JAN12). I slipped past a cattle guard on a locomotive and managed to snap a couple of pictures of their 1949 Trailwind before the guard yelled at me. I can't wait to go back when the exhibit is open and take a good look at the trailer.

Beautiful!

We were in a museum in Florida, I think, and saw one of the original "trailers" which were basically tents on a frame and built from a kit. Had a pantry/cooking area that folded out and open. Very, very cool.

I was a bit disappointed with the Henry Ford Museum; there were lots of interesting things to look at but very little narrative backing it up; but maybe that's just me. I hadn't been bitten by the Airstream bug when I went there but I did like the Dymaxion house that is on display. It's sort of a circular Airstream but without the wheels!

Agreed. The house was cool. My wife wasn't too happy when I started asking the docent there about obtaining a set of plans......

Another Trailwind!!!

Thanks @Aviator for snapping these shots!!! I guess there's no way to tell what the serial # is? It would be on the left side of the entry door. Would love to know which one it is. Anybody know??? Thanks!

Benjo has the first '49 Trailwind sn# 5018 and I have the last (Crazycpa) sn# 5060, so it would be in that range.

The Florida museum is the Edison-Ford Estate in Fort Myers. Not exactly RV friendly parking, unfortunately. It’s a very engaging exhibit about the pioneering days of motor camping, tucked among numerous other displays. Well worth a visit!

It looks like a late model to me with the different style windows. Mine is #5064.
One day when we get to the states I'll drop in for a look.
