Kirk Creek!

Neil!

It looks like you and Lynn are taking advantage of summer! Robert too!

How was it? Gorgeous as always we bet and we're sure the drive in the convertible was spectacular! You and Robert have such great trailers. We're always surprised there aren't more accidents on the road when you're driving your shiny trailer and pretty car.

Was it hard to get reservations or did you just drive up? What sites were you in?

AND just what did YOU have for dinner?

Your friends,

Your friends,
Lynn and I had spent the weekend with our daughter's inlaws in Carmel. We were volunteers at the Pebble Beach Concour d' Elegance antique auto show. On Monday we decided to gamble on acquiring a site at the popular Kirk Creek Campground. They had one vacancy.....it was meant to be. #1 isn't the most desirable site for an Airstream. Alittle steep to level it. But we made it work, at least the refer worked. We stayed and enjoyed driving Big Surto Cambria with the top down. Friday Robert pulled in and was just as surprised as we were. They are staying in #19, not Airstream friendly either but a great view. Lynn had prepared more lagsane than we could eat but they declined because they arrived with friends with an SOB! I have pictures but haven't downloaded them yet. We got home this afternoon. Don't tell too many about Kirk Creek. It's too hard already to get in.

Too Late!

Neil,

It's too late to keep Kirk Creek a secret. Did you see Sunset Magazine last month? It was on the cover, with an Airstream no less!

Your friends,
Yeah, we saw it but had already heard about Kirk. Tip from the host, "arrive between 8 and 9 am for a first come first serve site."

Labor Day Picnic

We had an impromptu picnic at a rest stop in Colfax, California on our way home from Burning Man.

Murray made guacamole right there and then, under the shade of a large pine tree. So . . . we had guacamole and tortilla chips, ahi tuna ceviche, feta, moroccan spice olives with grilled red peppers, tomatoes from our yard, Cowgirl Creamery's Red Hawk cheese, Redwood Hill Farm's Camellia goat cheese and Boccalone Salumeria's Cotechino.

It's a good thing we had a rather substantial meal, since we spent twelve hours in Labor Day traffic getting from Gerlach, Nevada to our Bay Area home.

We'll post some dinner images from Burning Man as soon as we get them downloaded.

Moroccan Night at BurnStream Court

On Sunday, September 29th, BurnStream Court hosted the artists of Phoenix Rising through Feed the Artists.

Here's the menu:

Pomegranate Champagne Cocktails

Cumin Dusted Moroccan Olives
Hummus
Toasted Pita

Grilled Lamb Brochettes
Grilled Vegetable Brochettes
Mint Sherry Vinaigrette

Orange, Red Onion and Olive Salad

Oven Roasted Chicken
Grilled Leg of Lamb
Dried Apricot Basmati Rice Pilaf with Toasted Almonds
“Three Bean” Tajine -it rhymes!
Grilled Courgettes and Peppers
Lentil Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette

Moroccan Date Pudding

Dates, Apricots, Figs and Melons

Mint Tea

We were so busy serving and cooking that we didn't get a chance to capture any images.

We used everyone's tables from our camp, set them on kilim rugs, and scattered kilim pillows. Gemma packed up over 30 glass champagne flutes and 24 wine glasses, not to mention real plates and utensils!

The image below is of our table setting taken by Monte on AirForums, who helped hang the blue glass moroccan lanterns. Dinner for 24! In the desert!

This is more of a what's for breakfast topic but felt like passing it along.

This morning I took a slightly stale blueberry fritter (like a big donut made of bread type donut pastry) sliced it about 1/4" thick dipped it in egg and fried it in butter like French toast. It made the best French toast you ever tasted!

For egg dip I used an egg, splash of milk less than half the amount of egg, and a drop of vanilla extract beaten together.

Serve with a dusting of icing sugar or thread of chocolate syrup. Great side dish for brunch.

Last night we had dinner at Gemma's brother's family's house.

We had Kinder's grilled tri tip, grilled salmon, grilled asparagus, Murray's potato salad and brown rice.

Blah, Blah, Blah

Blah, blah, blah, . . . dessert . . .

Strawberry shortcake made with organic strawberries and cream whipped by hand, um, Murray's hand.

The Most Important Meal Of The Day . . .

Yesterday, Sunday, we had brunch with our friends Carmella and Ruth)(Mame on AirForums) at Canteen C A N T E E N in San Francisco.

Murray had Eggs Benedict, Gemma had the cornmeal crusted skate wing, scrambled eggs and paprika sauce, Ruth had bacon and eggs and Carmella had the peach french toast with cream cheese "sauce". Everything was amazing as most of the Yelp reviews http://www.yelp.com/biz/canteen-san-francisco attest, so much so that we left as members of the Clean Plate Club.

I've got to say I feel as if I've found my people after reading all 31 pages(!) of this thread. Glad to hear you folks like to cook and eat.

A big part of our AS adventures are about the food & drink. Finding the little out of the way spots, touring small batch producers, etc. And cooking up a storm. We'll be travelling with two grills, a flat top and a smoker on our next cross country expedition which kicks off in three weeks.

Cheers,

Dave

Wow Dave!

You seem to be loaded for bear! We sometimes travel with two grills, BUT a flat top AND a smoker?! You are our hero! We did however bring three grills and eight coolers, with at least five of them being the really large marine type, when Murray was the executive chef for Feed The Artists at Burning Man this year.

We hope you post an image of all of your cooking equipment when you set out for your trip. You know, there are restaurants along the way.

The image below is of us arriving at BurnStream Court at Black Rock City after four days of feeding over 800 artists at Entheon Village. We didn't bother to strap anything down, instead choosing to throw the empty coolers and boxes of dried goods on the truck and drive really slowly.

Happy trails,

Gemma,

Nice. When I left IT management the original plan was to 1) stage, 2) attend CIA in NY, 3) travel the country in an AS checking out the food scene everywhere and then to 4) move to Seattle and 5) open a restaurant.

I accomplished 1, was accepted to 2, and still working on 3, pulled off 4 and no loner want to do 5.

lol

I'd really love to get involved with Burning Man someday. I've never been but have helped a friend with his art project.

Once we get settled here in Seattle I'm planning on jumping in with both feet.

LOL

Dave,

Murray has done 1 and 2 (Did you know that the CIA offers a Masters? It costs a small fortune. It would be less expensive to earn a medical degree from some schools than it would be to pay for the CIA's tuition.) We're working on 3, wouldn't mind doing 4 and would love to do 5, albeit we'd also be a little terrified of doing things like the books and setting up group health insurance.

We look forward to meeting you as you work on 3.

Your friends,

And Later That Same Day . . .

So after we had brunch at Canteen, we went to the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco and then went to Gemma's best friend's niece's party to celebrate her graduation from UCLA.

We had grilled chicken and carne asada with grilled scallions and Nicaraguan cabbage salad and rice.

Murray made a huge devil's food cake with bittersweet chocolate ganache. We think that some guests decided to forego dinner in order to have dessert first.

Grilled (rare) fresh sushi-grade ahi lightly seasoned with lavendar and rosemary, wild and brown rice, and broccoli, followed with a berry sorbet. Disappeared before I could remember the camera.

Dinner Out

We were in Pleasant Hill this evening and had dinner at Jack's http://www.yelp.com/biz/jacks-restau...-pleasant-hill with Gemma's mom.

We started out at the bar with the Mediterranean Plate - warm grilled pita, hummus, taboulleh, tzatziki and olives, and the fried calamari.

We then moved to the dining room where Murray had an iceberg wedge salad and three cheese macaroni, Gemma had the spaghetti and clams, and Moms had the petrale sole. We ordered a slice of cheesecake to go since we were stuffed, but couldn't resist. No rice! Plenty of carbs nonetheless!

Grainy iPhone images below of Gemma and Murray's entrees. (We were a little embarassed to ask Moms to wait so we could capture an image of her entree.)
