For me I may have to start a thread, 'What's for Breakfast this morning'? I am making my breakfast the 'big' meal of the day. I've been trying this for a year and it works for me....but Holiday 'festiveats' are tough to ignor. A decent breakfast of perhaps eggs and wheat toast then a half sandwich for lunch and a snack of an apple etc or nuts in the late afternoon leaves me not needing a dinner. This, of course, can get boring but I'm enjoying how much better I feel and look. Breakfast need to be more interesting and just as healthy. I've never been a cereal fan.

Blah, Blah, Blah . . .

Roast beast . . . potato gratin . . .peas in cream sauce . . .Yorkshire pudding . . . AND what we like to call, "The Elvis". Open faced, grilled peanut butter, butter, honey sandwiches, topped with a bruleed banana slice.

Dinner with friends on January 8th. Dark grainy image of (the) Elvis below.

Leftovers

Tonight we had leftovers: Basmati rice and black beans with cilantro crema.

Leftovers from a tasting we did for some potential clients yesterday.

Here's what was on the tasting menu:

Pork Cigarillos with Pineapple Honey Jalapeno Dipping Sauce
Beef Satay Skewers with Coconut Spiked Peanut Sauce
Halibut Ceviche Shots
Ceasar Salad Bites
French Fries with Mint Mojo

Baby Greens with Pecan Crusted Goat Cheese, Plantain Chips, Mango Champagne Vinaigrette

Grilled Jerk Chicken with Pineapple Mango Salsa
Rice Pilaf
Black Beans with Cilantro Crema
Roasted Corn Relish with Lime Shallot Butter

Sorry, no images. We brought a proper camera, but we were just so busy cooking, plating and serving that we didn't have a chance to capture any images.

Guess What Was On Sale?

Blackberries!

We can't even remember what we had for dinner on January 17th. We do, however, remember what we had for dessert; blackberry cobbler! With hand-whipped cream.

Winner, Winner, Pho Dinner!

We had an early dinner on January 18th in Chinatown.

Pho at Golden Flower. Golden Flower Vietnamese Restaurant - Chinatown - San Francisco, CA We love going to Golden Flower - great food at inexpensive prices. Gemma's been going with her family since the early eighties and introduce Murray to the restaurant.

Gemma had the #1, Pho and Murray had the #40, Bun Thit Cha Gio -grilled pork over cold rice noodles with spring rolls, served with nam pla - fish sauce with lime and chiles.

We ran into a friend that we hadn't seen in years and he insisted on paying for our dinner. So, . . . winner, winner, pho dinner!

Image below of Gemma's huge bowl of pho, after she got through half of it and remembered to take a shot of it.

We are now eating marinated portabella mushroom caps marinated in worcestershire, soy, wine vinegar, tempura sauce and garlic powder. Grilled with Gorganzola and served on a grilled onion roll.

The meal seems to blend in with the San Diego life style.

Grandkids, GreatGrandkids (they lost power in WA) and we get to "host" them for several days. Tonight refried beans and tacos. fruit, black olives. Wine and more wine for GM and GP. Love it.

Last night it was comfort food, both figuratively & literally. Chili & cornbread. Although it did get a little soupy after watching the disastrous 4th quarter & OT between the 49'ers & NY. (was going to attach a picture, but who want's to see "soupy" chili? )

Healthy Dinner?

Tonight it was Turkey & Sausage meatballs, with an herb & garlic marinara sauce over spaghetti squash, with garlic toast points, and a box of red wine (Trader Joe's ?).

I Talyan

We had dinner at Boca on January 20th.

We started with the Farmers Pizza - pancetta, potato slices, julienned leeks and burrata cheese, topped with a fried egg.

We shared the Manila clams in a tomato saffron broth.

Murray had the short rib pappardelle. Gemma had the linguine and clams.

Hey Gemma & Murry:

Yeah, I didn't gain any weight over the holidays, but just looking at all the scrumptious meals you fix and eat, I'm gaining weight just looking at what you make, and places you go! (trying to lose a few for a wedding in march)!

Hey there Terry!

Was your chili soupy 'cuase there were a few man tears in it? A few of our friends had a/some tear(s) in their beer(s) on Sunday night too. Sigh.

We hung out with friends on Sunday and had a Pre Super Bowl Party. Sigh again.

Total football food:

Spinach dip - Gemma made it. You know, the recipe from the back of the Knorr Vegetable Soup Mix packet. Big hit! Served with soft French bread. No image, because we think you know what spinach dip looks like.
Guacamole - (Okay, you may now assume that Murray made everything else.)
Nacho cheese dip - (Hah! Gemma actually "made" this. Gussied it up with tomatoes in a homage to the Niners' team colors. She even pulled out some red linens!)
Home made tortilla chips - a mountain of them. No image because we think you know what they look like too.
French fries with mint mojo (Maybe not such football food, but a big hit nonetheless.)
Buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing (Served with rice, and yes, most people ate them this way.)

And beer! Accompanied by tears later in the evening.
