So Much Squash!

What do you do when your wife buys pounds and pounds of squash? You make squash raviolis!

We had dinner at Cupola Pizzeria on October 24th and had some really amazing butternut squash raviolis. They were delicious but, wow, they were pricey. Cupola Pizzeria Lunch Menu

Murray made homemade raviolis on December 4th. Butternut squash raviolis with brown butter and fried chiffonade of sage leaves. Just as delicious and waaay less expensive than Cupola's.

Murray's raviolis are captured in the image on the left. Cupola's raviolis in the image on the right.

(Just posted this and our raviolis look a little palid compared to Cupola's. Hmmm, we're going to blame it on the lighting.)

Double ditto on squash ravioli being a long-time fave! For simple roasting, delicata can't be beat if you can find it in your area.

But tonight I Roasted Salmon with Orange, Onions and Red Bell Peppers. Fresh hearth bread and a great salad from Susie if only I ask nothing more. Muy bueno!

We also had smoked chicken tortellini in a pinenut brodo and a prosciutto cotto pizza with thin slices for butternut squash and sprigs of thyme.

Here's a recent review from SFGate: Cupola review: Pizza among Bay Area's best

Some nights ARE better than others!

Hey Murry & Gemma:

Guess we're not uptown enough, never heard of squash ravioli's before, but sure sounds good. Knowing Murry, his were probably much better than the restaurants.

Few nights ago we had Banana (and Blueberry) Foster with Croissant French Toast...., yes for dinner. Natalie really out did herself. Tonight, we had to go up the road an hour and a half to visit daughter #1, had fast food for dinner. !

Hey there Terry!

You are a luck man! The french toast look delicious! We're always up for breakfast for dinner. Hmmm, maybe french toast all gussied up for dinner soon. (Murray makes french toast all the time for breakfast.)

We hope the holidays are treating you well and look forward to seeing your gingerbread village this year.

We'll try to remember to buy some candy stock.

Your friends,

Lest we forget, Gemma helped with dinner on December 3rd.

She made the salad. Mixed baby greens, pecans and blue cheese with a simple vinaigrette.

Inspiration

Yesterday Gemma read an article in our local paper, The Chronicle. Filipino feast for Christmas

. . . which led her to discover a new blog, Jun Blog, to be exact, chicken adobo | Search Results | Jun-Blog

It inspired her to make dinner tonight. Hey - Murray's not complainin'.

Chicken adobo (chicken, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, onions, garlic, black pepper and bay leaves) made with bay leaves from a tree on our back forty.

Image below, as it was simmering away on the stove. Served over rice, of course.

Appetizer: Asparagus in the Pink
Main Course: Popcorn
I know - strange dinner, but that's what I felt like.

Popcorn, reminded me of when Rusty Rivet would go on rafting/fishing trips many years ago. My son and I would have popcorn and milkshakes for dinner. Thanks for the memories.

sempi, hope you caught some fish on those trips to make it a balanced meal: protein, vegetables, and dairy.

Tonight.....a happy little bowl of Pho.
