Fall brings a craving for the root vegetables and hearty protein: pot roast marinated in red wine, beef broth, garlic and herbs with olive oil/pan-roasted potatoes, turnip, carrots, celery and onion.

Dessert was pumpkin/maple-walnut muffins with a big pot of tea.

Vroom, vroom . . .

We catered AbleCloset's 1st Annual Charity Benefit,AbleCloset – A Resource for Special Needs Equipment in Northern California on October 15th in San Carlos at San Francisco Sports Cars, San Francisco Sports Cars: We Buy and Sell Exotic Sports Cars and Gemma made cupcakes - 220 of them!

Below is Gemma's red velvet cupcake with vanilla bean cream cheese frosting. The image was captured by our talented photographer friend, Yekaterina Bowyer of YBowyer Photography and replickatelife.com Gemma also made devils food and carrot cake cupcakes. (People are always amazed that she cooks and bakes.)

And for the car enthusiasts out there, it's sitting on a cherry 1967 Corvette. We've also included a link to Kate's images at the venue - a Shelby Cobra, an Austin Healy and additional images of some more amazing cars, Austin-Healey 3000 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Images of the actual dinner and drinks to come.

After being on the road (literally) for three weeks, although not in a great car like the cherry 1967 Corvette, we had a good home made dinner: broiled orange roughy, steamed broccoli, butternut squash soup (home made)..., and toasted garlic sourdough french bread. Gemma's red velvet cupcake with vanilla bean cream cheese frosting would be the ultimate desert (trying not to drool on the key board)!

Will have to try and see if we have any pictures from our recent travels of our meals.

Safe travels and good eating, Terry.

Last weekend was the Canadian Thanksgiving, and I was at the RV park.

Many were making turkey dinner with all the fixings. One woman had her turkey in an outdoor convection oven.

My Thanksgiving dinner consisted of lean turkey meatballs (in a box from Safeway) and a mixed green salad with toasted walnuts, cranberries, with an orange-cranberry viniagrette. It was healthy and delicious. "Dessert" was a low-fat pumpkin milkshake. All the flavours, without the calories.

Was doing a lot of walking and hiking; didn't want to negate the postive effects with gluttony.

So, . . .

here's the menu from the benefit we catered on October 15th:

Passed Appetizers:
Shanghai Pork Cigarillos
Ahi Tuna Poke with Asian Pears served in Persian Cucumber Cups
Mini BLTs with Pineapple Aioli
Caesar Salad Crostini Bites

Dinner Service:
Baby Greens with Fall Apple Battons and Pecan Crusted Chevre, Banyuls Vinaigrette

Salade Nicoise
Achiote Chicken with Mango and Grilled Pineapple Salsa
Whole Sides of Line-Caught Wild Salmon with Fennel Apple Relish
Basmati Rice with Sultanas, Dried Apricots, Currants and Slivered Almonds

Red Velvet, Devils Food and Carrot Cake Cupcakes with Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Frosting

We also had two bars going and the drinks looked amazing!

We posted a few images of some of the appetizers as well as an image of AbleCloset's blue signature cocktail that evening.

Additional images of the food and some of the amazing cars can be found here: Stuff Murray's Made | Facebook and here: Cigarillos | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

We had a great time and the event was a huge success. Over $140,000.00 was raised, allowing AbleCloset to continue to provide children with special needs with the equipment they need to reach their maximum potential. We were honored to be have been a part of their successful benefit.

Mine won't look as fancy as some of the meals that others are having, but tonight is my wife's stroganoff. Great for the chill in the air tonight.

Cheers,

Leftovers

We're still working on leftovers from the event we catered on October 15th.

Gemma made dinner on October 17th - pan roasted chicken with a side of golden beets that were on the Salade Nicoise.

And then we had a spinach salad with golden beets and goat cheese (used for the pecan crusted chevre) baguette slices, dressed with Banyuls vinaigrette.

Remember that ahi tune poke? Yep, ahi tuna burgers with golden beets.

Yesterday we went to Gemma's brother's home - potato salad using the baby Yukon Gold potatoes and hard boiled eggs from the Salade Nicoise, and bacon bits from the mini BLTs.

Images of the oven roasted chicken, beet and goat cheese salad and ahi tuna burger (served with rice, of course) below.

Amazingly, we still like beets.

Gone fishin'

Murray went fishing with the guys last Sunday. He was happy that he had something to bring home after pulling out the Boston Whaler from the storage facility. So, yesterday we had grilled striped bass with tomatoes from our garden. And rice. Can't forget the rice.

Good Eats.

OK, ate at the "Fish House". Really good food. We had Grits ŕ Ya Ya:
Spiced Gulf jumbo shrimp topped w/ a sauté of spinach, portobello mushrooms, applewood-smoked bacon, garlic, shallots, and cream over a heaping bed of smoked Gouda cheese grits. Bon eats, y’all! Also Crab-stuffed Mahi-Mahi:
Herb- and bacon-crusted mahi-mahi stuffed with crab, pan-seared and served over orzo pasta
tossed with portobello mushrooms, onions, fresh spinach, and sun-dried tomato pesto;
finished with grilled scallions and lemon butter sauce!

What else are vacations for?

Continuing the seafood theme . . .

we had shrimp tacos last night, 11-11-11. We were going to grill the shrimp but it was raining so we sauteed them with garlic in olive oil instead.

So here you go: Shrimp tacos with cabbage dressed in a cilantro lime vinaigrette with chipotle sour cream.

Working Back

We were in Pleasant Hill on November 10th and had dinner at Jack's.

Gemma had the spaghetti and clams to start (leftovers for lunch the next day) and fried chicken for dinner (more leftovers for lunch the next day). Ugh, sorry, just realized the image of the fried chicken is blurrier than usual. Murray had the wedge salad with blue cheese and a balsamic reduction dressing, and lamb chops for dinner.

WE shared a huge caramelized banana split for dessert.
