Starting with wine and cheese, then Grass fed bison prime rib, brusselsprouts with almonds, yukon gold mash potatoes, carrots, broccoli, Trader Joe's orange cranberry relish, and apple pie (from Bake and Broil http://www.yelp.com/biz/jongewaards-...oil-long-beach) with ice cream.
And of course, all the usual bourbon laced eggnog and See's candy.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Tonight's menu: Turkey dinner. I wonder why?
This year I cooked the turkey Gordon Ramsay style. Filled the cavity and space between skin and breast with oodles of fresh herbs and butter.
Accompanying the turkey:
- brussels sprouts drizzled with Dijon mustard/bacon cream
- buttered baby carrots
- yam/marshmallow puff
- apple/prune sage dressing
- herb and sherry gravy
- homemade orange-cranberry sauce
- garnish - fresh parsley and a rosemary/pomegranate sprig
Warmest wishes and happy roads to all in 2012!

WHERE IS THE VELVEETA CHEESE LOL!
On Christmas Eve it was a simple meal; ROAST BEAST (smoked), and BBQ type sides. Christmas, well... pretty much the same as most, just our own variation. Granted, Fly, your plate looks superb and "Food Network" worthy, I suppose I have a different opinion of portion size! I promise you my Christmas dinner plate makes yours look like the Sahara Desert! (Of course most of the year, I must confess, our portion size is most similar to yours). Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Christmas Dinner
We spent Christmas with Gemma's family and that meant Hawaiian and Filipino food, along with the traditional holiday ham.
We started out with a fruit and cheese plate (the triple cream with truffles was the first cheese to go), deviled eggs, futomaki sushi, Marcona almonds and macadamia nuts, and creamy artichoke jalapeno dip with assorted crackers and chips. Prawns with creamy basil mayonnaise! Can not forget about the prawns with creamy basil mayonnaise.
Below is an image of the table. We'll try to list "snake" like from the left of the Niman Ranch ham, in the center foreground. We had:
Chinese chicken salad, with crispy chow mein and bean thread noodles
Chicken Hekka (or as the kids like to call it, "Hecka Chicken") Chicken Hekka Recipe : : Food Network
Our sister in law's mom's potato salad (with lots of boiled eggs and mayo - no onions, just like we like it)
stuffing
brown rice
white rice
Murray's mango and grilled pineapple salsa
roasted fennel and winter vegetables
cauliflower mash
Murray's achiote chicken (you have it with the mango and grilled pineapple salsa)
Pork Pipikaula What Is Pipi Kaula?
Kalua Pork Kalua - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
wedges of lemon to go with the . . .
Pancit that Gemma made, right behind it (this is required for birthdays - the long noodles represent long life) Pancit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Okay, back to snaking around the table . . .
limu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limu_(algae)
poi
Lomi Salmon Lomi salmon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
opihi (which goes with the limu) The Opihi Shellfish Story - Honolulu Magazine - November 2011 - Hawaii
Hawaiian bread rolls
(Not captured in the image were cranberry pickles and cranberry relish which were below the foreground.)
We had a few bottles of red and white wine and Cranberry Shrubs for drinks Cranberry Shrub recipe
And then came dessert. Murray made this gigantic baseball shaped cake for our nephew's 12th birthday. It stood a good fourteen inches tall and after serving everyone a slice, we had only gotten through a quarter of it at most. Devils food with chocolate and raspberry buttercreams and whole raspberries sandwiched between the five layers. It was so tall that a slice barely fit on a salad plate. Image of the cake after we pulled out the candles and an image of a "small" slice. Dulce de Leche and strawberry ice cream to go with the cake.
Pancit for breakfast this morning.
We hope everyone had a great Christmas.

ha! ha! That's funny!
Perhaps we should arrange a Velveeta Rally featuring.....
- the great Velveeta cook-off
- Velveeta discus throwing
- a Velveeta carving and sculpturing contest
- wrap your Airstream like a brick of Velveeta
- tasting contest - is it real or is it Velveeta?
p.s. I tried to reply to your message, but I don't think it went through.
Feel free to use the picture - I don't mind.

Got it, thanks. Love the Velvetta Cheese Idea, and it sounds crazy enough to be fun. Will have to consider it down the road.
Yhotts: As usual all the food looks great, but I for one would start with the desert, it looks...., well beside delicious, beyond words.
Yesterday, was a "shop-a-holic" day, doing our best to keep the economy going. Our younger daughter loves to shop so off we went, didn't get back till after 8pm. Traffic and stores were not to bad, for dinner it was left overs, and IMHO nothing wrong with that!

We'll have to bring that up to our sister in law's mom. Spam didn't make it on the table, but believe us, the pantry was well stocked. (Our sister in law's mom actually sends it over from Hawaii's Big Island!) Kinda like carrying coals to Newcastle.
Maybe we'll ask for Spam musubi next year.

Steelegood, this is for you!
Terry, are you out there?
We're thinking of you and your love of pizza as we post this.
We kinda, sorta had leftovers the day after Christmas, but you can only eat so much pancit. So, . . .
. . . we went to Pizza Antica in Lafayette for dinner. We did the exact same thing last year on December 27th, http://www.airforums.com/forums/f484...-36810-39.html
This time we invited our nephew, who just turned 12 the previous day (it was a sort of, "Hey, we know we rolled your birthday party into Christmas dinner, here's our way of trying to make it up to you" party). We also invited various and sundry relatives.
It seems like there were lots of people who wanted pizza the day after Christmas as there was a huge wait, estimated to be over an hour (they don't take reservations), with parties of up to thirteen waiting to be seated (we had nine people in our party). We decided to eat on the patio, under some infrared heaters in 45 degree weather. Kinda of a hoot as one of the relatives from Hawaii was in shorts. Four out of our nine guests ordered mugs filled with hot water, just so they could warm their hands - one ordered coffee right after he was seated. Yup, same guy in shorts.
So, here's what we had:
#2 - Margherita with sausage
#4 - sausage mushroom
#5 - pear, garlic and Mount Tam triple cream cheese
#6 - potato and truffle oil
and a kid size cheese pizza (that was then doused with parmagiano when it arrived at the table)
No dessert, at least at Pizza Antica.
We went to watch Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol afterwards. Kettle corn at the theater. Kettle corn! Fresh! At the theater! Who knew!
Dark, fuzzy images of most of the pizzas below.

Fooducate and Sauerkraut
I'll be eating a bunch of different stuff than I have been since I discovered a new app for my smartphone. I installed an app named Fooducate which scans a bar code held up in front of the camera, then connects to an online database of foods and gives me back an overall score for the nutritional content of the item. Most of the things that I liked had a D or lower score, and using the online suggestions for alternatives I was able to select a bunch of groceries that are C+ or higher in nutritional content and it's all stuff that I had previously overlooked.
I'm also chowing down on my first batch of home made sauerkraut after I discovered the health benefits of eating it and how easy it is to make. My home made doesn't compare to store bought - it's that much better. Dr. Oz recommended sk to help reduce belly fat and ever since I started having some on my sandwich at lunch, my belly's started slowly going away. It perks up the sandwich taste too.

Looks like we'll be making sauerkraut! Might need a barrel of it to get rid of our "winter coats".
Thanks so much for posting and sharing the app Crusty!

December 28th
We had dinner at the Tavern at Lark Creek on December 28th. We did almost the same thing in 2010 on December 29th. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f484...-36810-39.html
We both had:
roasted pear and goat cheese salad, butter lettuce, lavender honey glazed almonds, huckleberry vinaigrette
pappardelle with lamb bolognese (split)
short ribs on a bed of creamy polenta, with mushrooms and winter root vegetables, topped with mizuna
butterscotch pudding with chocolate chip and sugar cookies
Images below.

How to make sauerkraut
Here's an informative guide to making sauerkraut. The recipes in it are basic and I jazzed up my first batch with 4 jalapeno chiles sliced thin to make some hot kraut (could have used more). The trick about using a freezer bag filled with brine to seal off the kraut while it's fermenting works well - I didn't have any bloom develop on the top at all.

New Year's Eve
We had an early dinner on New Year's Eve at Blowfish Sushi. http://www.blowfishsushi.com/blowfishsf_dinner.pdf
We started with the Ritsu Roll - maguro, bincyo, avocado, masago fl ash fried & served with citrus ponzu.
Then we had the pork belly, with braised daikon radish garnish with asian pear brunoise (that just means teeny tiny cubes of asian pears) and micro daikon greens.
Next up, lobster maki, topped with beef tenderloin and micro greens with a swipe of wasabi mascarpone cream.
We ended with with unagi (eel), hamachi (yellow tail) and saba (mackerel) nigiri.
We didn't have dessert, but included an image below of a really pretty confection that we had on another visit earlier in the year; Japanese cheesecake (which is not as creamy, more cakey than traditional cheesecake) with ube (purple yam) ice cream, cookie tuile and cotton candy.
Home by ten o'clock to turn on all the lights and open up all the windows and doors to greet the new year. Twelve grapes for each of us a few minutes after midnight 'cause we forgot about them after our little midnight kiss.
We hope everyone had a great new year's eve.
