Am craving a sandwich for dinner. To quote John Gotti, "All I want is an *effin' good sandwich."
*He used a stronger vernacular!

What will it be? A few favourites come to mind:
- egg salad with lots of green onion
- curried chicken with cashews and grapes
- grilled vegetables with shaved parmesan
- ham and melted brie
- grilled cheese with three kinds of cheese
- shrimp and avocado
- catsup and bacon (sounds gross, but I really like this concoction).

My vote would be for the curried chicken with grapes and cashews

Of course I'm also partial to peanut butter, jelly, and bacon.

Kevin, I'm afraid a lack of ingredients quashed the enthusiasm. (No butter or margarine, mayo or grapes). So ended up making pea soup. Nothing to write home about - the dog got most of it. Have to try your PBJB sandwich sometime.

In your post about your trip you showed a snapshot of a Turkey Dinner (TV dinner style), but you never mentioned if actually was your Thanksgiving meal. I am sure you would have posted it here!!!

Was pulling your drumstick there, dirigible. TV dinners aren't my thang.

I did a lot of hiking on my trip; didn't want to undo the good by eating crapola, so Thanksgiving was very healthy. Organic greens topped with lean turkey slices, toasted almonds and dried cranberries in an orange viniagrette. Dessert was a lo-fat/sugar-free pumpkin milkshake.

All the flavours, but not all the fat and calories.

A lot of campers were cooking turkeys and all the trimmings. It was a good place to spend Thanksgiving "away from the family and all the b.s." as one fellow camper put it. Hope to be there next year.

I knew you were pulling my leg, just as I was just joking around with you. It being Thanksgiving, you can pull my leg (drumstick) anytime. After reading how you were relaxing while being entertained by some of your redneck neighbors all the while enjoying your wine and other goodies, I figured the TV dinner was not a reality. At any rate, I am glad you got out and enjoyed life in your AS. Oh, and thanks for the photo you took in the obligatory prop with the face cutout.

Black Friday

We spent Thanksgiving with family in the central valley and came home with no leftovers - unless you count the few marshmallows we brought back home to share with our nephew and niece. So we were starving the next day. Starving!

We went to Justin Herman Plaza on the Embarcadero and watched the ice skaters. https://www.google.com/search?q=just...w=1366&bih=659

And then we had dinner a few steps away at One Market. One Market Restaurant | Michelin Star Dining at the San Francisco Embarcadero

We captured some images but it was so incredibly dark that the images are of really poor quality. But here's the run down of what we had:

Foie gras amuse bouche
Roasted Quince Salad Pt. Reyes Blue, duck “bacon,” walnuts, chicories - Murray
Pan-Seared Artisan Foie Gras wakame, wood-ear mushrooms, bonito consommé - Gemma
Sweetbread Raviolis - Gemma and Murray
Roasted Liberty Farms Duck Breast duck and foie gras sausage, figs, ras al hanout, cilantro - Murray
Cranberry Crumble with vanilla ice cream - Shared

No longer starving.

We can't even recall what we had for dinner on November 26th other than these amazing individual Yorkshire puddings!

They were so puffy and golden when we pulled them out of the oven. Ahhh - we're hungry all over again.

We did our part for the economy on Sunday, November 27th and went to the mall, San Francisco Centre.

Bought Murray a new knife from Sur La Table and had dinner at the Buckhorn Grill at the food court. Buckhorn Grill [Home]

We had salads. Gigantic salads. Murray's was at least seven inches tall!

Gemma had the Yik Yak salad, a mix of greens, cabbages, crispy pasta, cilantro, green onions, jicama, red peppers, snow peas, tossed with sweet sesame dressing & topped with toasted almonds.

Murray had the Roadhouse Salad with sliced tri-tip. (Mixed greens with crispy Roadhouse onions, string beans, tomatoes, bleu cheese crumbles & sweet walnuts tossed w/ honey basil vinaigrette.)

Went to see the tree at Union Square after dinner.

Gone Fishin'

The boys pulled out the old Boston Whaler early Sunday morning (way before we went to the mall) and went fishing.

The fish were biting and we got to bring one home. Our nephew, Christian, caught this 18" striped bass. We took the image minutes before we put it on the grill.

So, grilled striped bass for dinner on Monday, November 28th. With rice and peas.

Spruce

On Wednesday, November 30th, we had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Spruce. spruce

It was sort of a post monthaversary celebration, since we spent our monthaversary with friends.

Gemma thinks it's one of the sexiest restaurants - intimate lighting, gracious service, decadent mohair upholstered settees, beautiful table settings, amazing wine list and incredible food.

Again, impossibly dark, yet incredibly intimate lighting makes for poor quality images. So we'll provide a link to their menu. http://www.sprucesf.com/menus/Spruce-Dinner.pdf

We started with an amuse bouche of gourgeres. Their fancy French word for cheese puffs. Then we had the fries. (They're not on the dinner menu, but you can order them.) The fries are hands down the best fries. Ever. Golden and crisp, fried in duck fat. Ya, that's why their so yummy. Garlicky, herb remoulade on the side to dip the fries into.

Then we both had the seared Hudson Valley foie gras with vadouvan waffle, pear infused maple syrup, pistachio crusted foie gras tourchon and pear jelly. We paired the foie with an Auslese reisling. Amazing. We're not big drinkers and can't even begin to to say we know much about wine, but the wine paired perfectly with the foie. It was crisp and balanced, delicate yet intense. We just had a glass - couldn't afford a bottle without entering into some sort of "will work for food/wine" agreement with management. SPRUCE - San Francisco | Wine List

Murray had the duck breast as an entree and Gemma had the Chicken Cordon Bleu.

Pear gelee and lemon verbena caramels with fleur de sel as a small dessert course.

Pump It Up!

We went to a birthday party on December 1st. Julius' 4th birthday party at Pump It Up. http://www.pumpitupparty.com/ Did some bouncing, jumping and sliding with about twenty kids and their parents. We had a great time! Whoo!

Dinner consisted of pepperoni pizza, fruit soda, a gigantic Mrs. Fields' cookie/cake and Murray's devils food cake with bittersweet ganache. We went home with goodie bags. Picture of our loot below.

The next night, December 2nd, we had ribeye marinated in lemon and soy sauce. It's a Filipino recipe called, "bistek", but we call it, "ribeye marinated in lemon and soy sauce".

Filipino Fried Steak - Recipe for Filipino Fried Steak - Bistek Tagalog

The recipe calls for fried potatoe slices and although Gemma's had it this way before, we just never get that far.

December 3rd

There was some crazy squash sale at Whole Foods and it seems that Gemma took full advantage of it. She bought Butternut, Kabocha, Delicata, Acorn and Blue Hubbard squashes.

So, on December 3rd we had roasted Blue Hubbard squash and pan roasted ribeye steak with au jus. And rice.

So Much Squash!

What do you do when your wife buys pounds and pounds of squash? You make squash raviolis!

We had dinner at Cupola Pizzeria on October 24th and had some really amazing butternut squash raviolis. They were delicious but, wow, they were pricey. Cupola Pizzeria Lunch Menu

Murray made homemade raviolis on December 4th. Butternut squash raviolis with brown butter and fried chiffonade of sage leaves. Just as delicious and waaay less expensive than Cupola's.

Murray's raviolis are captured in the image on the left. Cupola's raviolis in the image on the right.

(Just posted this and our raviolis look a little palid compared to Cupola's. Hmmm, we're going to blame it on the lighting.)

Double ditto on squash ravioli being a long-time fave! For simple roasting, delicata can't be beat if you can find it in your area.

But tonight I Roasted Salmon with Orange, Onions and Red Bell Peppers. Fresh hearth bread and a great salad from Susie if only I ask nothing more. Muy bueno!

We also had smoked chicken tortellini in a pinenut brodo and a prosciutto cotto pizza with thin slices for butternut squash and sprigs of thyme.

Here's a recent review from SFGate: Cupola review: Pizza among Bay Area's best
