Well, you just "cross-canceled" your "We've Gone Vegan" on the 29th(?) when you "had roasted butternut squash, roasted potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts and apples with a balsamic vinaigrette, and spinach and watercress salad with beets and hazelnuts" at the pasta shop. We all deserve a cholesterol laden meal every once in a while. With all the healthy eating you two do, you shouldn't need the nitroglycerin chaser! Ah........ Now, doesn't that make you feel better?

Enjoy, Terry.

Offsets

Hey there Terry.

Yup, we used vegan day to offset cholesterol day.

Yesterday we had ham, sweet potato hash and rice.

Today we had split pea soup with, yes, ham. Chocolate cake for dessert.

We're really looking forward to having chicken soon.

More Ham.

Sigh. Not complaining mind you.

Great Northern bean and ham soup. We made a huge pot of it. No more ham left. But lots of soup. We had to become Great Northern bean and ham soup elves. We gave some to our friends, some to Gemma's mom , some to Gemma's aunt and uncle, and we still have some more soup.

Hello freezer? Meet soup!

Chicken!

Yes!!!!

Roast chicken with corn on the cob and zucchini sauteed in extra virgin olive oil, and cooked within an inch of its life. Yes, some steamed rice also made it on the plate.

Murray's blackberry cobbler for dessert. Life is good.

This Ain't Dinner . . .

but it looked so pretty we thought we'd post images of our breakfast/brunch (we had started making breakfast at eleven) this morning.

Gemma, the purist, had challah french toast with a pat of butter and maple syrup.

Murray was a little more extravagant. He had a few slices of challah with stewed raspberries and blueberries in maple syrup, and, uh, um, some butter.

Now to figure out what's for dinner.

Smile Apparently "Dinner" is relative

In spite of the fact that Natalie has been feeding the wildlife regularly here for the last 15+ years, our newest "Dinner Guest" apparently prefers the bird seed to the fresh fruits & veggies she regularly provides.

Our dinner tonight will be beef & broccoli stir fry and fried rice.

Angry No Fortune Cookies........

Stir fried beef and broccoli, with a side of fried rice, however everyone wanted a fortune cookie to finish off the meal . Confucius say: I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. Apparently...., I didn't make it past "I hear", and ultimately forgot. Anyone have any tarot cards?

LOL! At least you "hear", some of us don't even do that. Just sayin'. Ahem.

Dinner looks good! Gemma's interest is piqued; fried rice!

Who Cares About Dinner When There's . . .

homemade Kettle Corn! We watched "It's A Wonderful Life" in bed and nibbled on a big bowl of kettle corn. Nom, nom, nom.

We had grilled ribeyes, grilled zucchini and sauteed mushrooms. Served up with holiday steamed rice.

Monster!

Two nights ago we had fresh Dungeness crab again. Gemma was at an asian grocery store in San Francisco and fresh crab was $1.99 a pound! Amazing!

Even more amazing . . . the artichoke below. We had artichokes for appetizers. Look at that thing! It's the size of an eight year old's noggin! Kinda makes you wonder what they were using for fertilizer. Gemma made sure they were organic. And get this, $.99 each! For disturbingly large, organic artichokes! Gotta love California and asian supermarkets!

Boy...., do I miss some aspects of CA!

OK...., I confess, I'm a junk food junkie. You had me at "Kettle Corn", boy, am I sucker .

However...., I do appreciate "good food", but mutan artichokes??? I do have to admit the Dungeness crab did make me jealous! I'm back to my "7 on", and at the mercy of my significant other for dinner, (and the road kill proposal in TN takes precedence), the slam, bam, thank you ma'am approach to dinner . Apparently "I make too much of a mess when I 'fix' something!. In her opinion, I have to use every utensil.... and all available counter space, in the kitchen, not to mention...... using every square inch of floor space in the kitchen in the process". The girls have mentioned wanting to make something for their friends (food wise) for Christmas. Can't wait to hear this!
To be continued!

Terry

Gemma Sympathizes

Hey there Terry!

Gemma totally sympathizes. Murray went to the CIA in upstate New York, has worked with Michael Mina, Bradley Ogden, Jan Birnbaum, Craig Stoll and lots of other great chefs. (He consults now.) So at times, he seems incredulous to learn that we don't have a full-time dishwasher on the payroll. He likes to use lots of pots and pans - even worse utensils and even worse; things like pasta makers, food processors and stand mixers, and believe us we have a lot of them ('cause he's a chef and all).

As for roadkill, you know they actually sell cans of roadkill in Tennessee. At least in Jonesborough, Tennessee, where we have a home. They kept it stocked for all the tourists. We don't think there was anything in the can but who's to say. We weren't going to pay three bucks to find out.
