Thanksgiving 2x

Okay, we're going to try and remember everything served on Thanksgiving.

At Modesto there were veggies and ranch dip, black olives, home made rolls (Gemma would have been happy to just eat these except for the fact that there were four turkey wings up for grabs), cinnamon butter and orange honey butter for the rolls, brined turkey cooked on the barbecue, roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sausage wonton appetizer thingies, ham baked/braised with peaches, pears, pineapple and raisins, cranberry relish with walnuts and topped with sour cream, dressing and last but not least, green bean casserole. No rice. No sweet potatoes. What???

At Alamo there were mixed olives, salumi and soppresata, futomaki sushi, Chinese chicken salad, somen noodle salad, brined, roasted turkey (with one turkey wing left when we got there at 8:30 in the evening), mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes and cauliflower, broccoli casserole, dressing, dungeness crab macaroni and cheese, gravy, sweet potatoes and, oh happy day, rice!

Gemma took a quick image of a small part of the Modesto spread. We apologize for the blurriness - she had to take it quickly, 'cause there were lots of hands reaching for things. The image of the roasted turkey we swiped from our cousin's, Rosie's, facebook page. (Look the drumstick is in almost the same position in the two images.) We didn't take any shots in Alamo because the table was obliterated by the time we got there for leftovers.

We did too! On the day after Thanksgiving. On The Charming Gemma.

We're all about multi-tasking, so we dropped a couple of crab nets off the side of the boat while we were decorating and had crab for dinner. Yep, that's them in the image below.

Crab and rice!

Terry,

You've shamed us. We were out and about the day before Thanksgiving on Fourth Street in Berkeley, trying to get a jump on holiday shopping - the day you posted the above quote.

We went all vegan on you-at least for lunch. Gemma grabbed lunch at The Pasta Shop. Pasta Shop - Fourth Street - Berkeley, CA The Pasta Shop :: Shopping on Fourth Street in Berkeley, California :: Unique Shopping and Dining on 4th Street :: SFBayShop :: WorldTravelShop

We had roasted butternut squash (Gemma's favorite thing to pick up), roasted potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts and apples with a balsamic vinaigrette, and spinach and watercress salad with beets and hazelnuts.

Oh, we're aware of Hooters. Well aware.

We usually fly out to Phoenix in March for Murray's Dad's birthday and take him to the Hooters in Tempe. He's so cute and the girls love him. We think the feeling is mutual.

Here's the link to our post in page 26, post 354: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f472...tml#post832893

Thanks for the invite! We'd love to check out your local Hooters and we're pretty sure Murray's dad wouldn't mind tagging along.

Interesting...., so extrapolating that info, Gemma may like the acorn squash thing with the cran-apple compote? So......., I'll file that, in the "lock tight safe" (ie, it may be in there but it might not ever get out ). It was good (and everyone did like it - very colorful!). If we ever meet up, we might try it out for her, and you could consider russeling up some crab/scallops/lobster tail...., we're easy.

On another note: LOL, love the pic. of the charming Gemma all gussied up for the holidays.

Girls were excited to have x-mas decorations up. They think they want to make gingerbread houses for their friends, but they don't know how much work it is, boy are they in for a surprise if it actually comes to fruition!! On another note: Neither one wanted to go back to school. One left early am (has a longer drive - and doesn't like beans) the other stayed for an early dinner, ergo, back to the topic at hand......, "What's for Dinner?".
I made Navy beans (not from a can, my momma would "b^&@#" slap me) w/ left over ham and good old cornbread baked in a cast iron skillet. One of my fav's.

Gemma, Glad you scored on the chicken wings!

Have fun.

Terry.

Hey there Terry!

We had ham with scalloped potatoes, (fresh) green beans and steamed rice two days ago. It was a huge ham and we had dinner with two friends but we hardly put a dent in it, even after we left them with some leftovers. So . . . we dropped some off to Gemma's mom and Gemma's aunt and uncle. We may call her brother to come by and pick some up too. Gemma's going to have ham, eggs and rice for lunch today. We might just have to become neighborhood ham elves and start passing some out to our neighbors. But the ham bone is all ours. Ours, we tell you!

We're going to make split pea soup! We like navy bean too, but we have split peas in the pantry - so split pea it is. Split pea soup coming soon!

Monthaversary - Five Days Later

We celebrated our monthaversary five days later, on the 28th. We were a little too busy with the holiday preparations.

We went to Woodside and had dinner at The Village Pub The Village Pub - Woodside, CA , one of our favorite restaurants. We wish we could go more often, but things like the mortgage payment get in the way.

The evening started with an amuse bouche of pumpkin soup with creme fraiche. Murray had the Fall Harvest Salad with satsuma tangerines, roasted beets, sheeps milk cheese and caviar. We both had the foie gras torchon salad; shaved foie gras torchon over mache, toasted hazelnuts and apple jellee. We then moved on to the grilled rack of pork with warm spinach salad, crispy pork trotters and roasted apples, and finished with the apple crisp with creme fraiche ice cream. Ohh, and one last thing, a homemade caramel with sea salt.

No wine, because, again, those pesky mortgage payments. Ice water - thank you very much.

We apologize for the grainy iPhone images. It was very intimately lit/romantic = dark.

Tonight, split pea soup at Chez Yhottys.

Dang it. We knew we forgot something.

Gemma had the duck consomme with smoked duck breast and matsutake mushrooms.

Okay, nothing else to report.

Well, you just "cross-canceled" your "We've Gone Vegan" on the 29th(?) when you "had roasted butternut squash, roasted potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts and apples with a balsamic vinaigrette, and spinach and watercress salad with beets and hazelnuts" at the pasta shop. We all deserve a cholesterol laden meal every once in a while. With all the healthy eating you two do, you shouldn't need the nitroglycerin chaser! Ah........ Now, doesn't that make you feel better?

Enjoy, Terry.

Offsets

Hey there Terry.

Yup, we used vegan day to offset cholesterol day.

Yesterday we had ham, sweet potato hash and rice.

Today we had split pea soup with, yes, ham. Chocolate cake for dessert.

We're really looking forward to having chicken soon.

More Ham.

Sigh. Not complaining mind you.

Great Northern bean and ham soup. We made a huge pot of it. No more ham left. But lots of soup. We had to become Great Northern bean and ham soup elves. We gave some to our friends, some to Gemma's mom , some to Gemma's aunt and uncle, and we still have some more soup.

Hello freezer? Meet soup!

Chicken!

Yes!!!!

Roast chicken with corn on the cob and zucchini sauteed in extra virgin olive oil, and cooked within an inch of its life. Yes, some steamed rice also made it on the plate.

Murray's blackberry cobbler for dessert. Life is good.

This Ain't Dinner . . .

but it looked so pretty we thought we'd post images of our breakfast/brunch (we had started making breakfast at eleven) this morning.

Gemma, the purist, had challah french toast with a pat of butter and maple syrup.

Murray was a little more extravagant. He had a few slices of challah with stewed raspberries and blueberries in maple syrup, and, uh, um, some butter.

Now to figure out what's for dinner.

Smile Apparently "Dinner" is relative

In spite of the fact that Natalie has been feeding the wildlife regularly here for the last 15+ years, our newest "Dinner Guest" apparently prefers the bird seed to the fresh fruits & veggies she regularly provides.

Our dinner tonight will be beef & broccoli stir fry and fried rice.

Angry No Fortune Cookies........

Stir fried beef and broccoli, with a side of fried rice, however everyone wanted a fortune cookie to finish off the meal . Confucius say: I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. Apparently...., I didn't make it past "I hear", and ultimately forgot. Anyone have any tarot cards?

LOL! At least you "hear", some of us don't even do that. Just sayin'. Ahem.

Dinner looks good! Gemma's interest is piqued; fried rice!
