So I guess I have to buy more stuff!

I have a covered Calphalon skillet and 3 quart pot that I got at Tuesday morning, I believe, that are perfect for no muss, no fuss cooking in our small kitchens.
Their non stick surfaces mean little to no oil needed, which translates to very quick clean-up.
I have spare ribs in my 5 quart IP right now, the first I have done those, but they’re Smithfield and were $.99/lb, so I couldn’t pass them up.
I’m still experiencing some dyslexic difficulty with the settings, not using this even once a week, and have to remind myself that it can take 20 minutes or more to pressurize, depending on what’s in there.
6lbs of spare ribs took at least that long, after I stopped it and fiddled with the settings a number of times...looking up troubleshooting tips, YouTube videos, etc.... thinking it wasn’t pressurizing, when it actually was.

Just pulled the trigger on an IP. Guess I'm now an official Pot Head with the rest of you. I got the 6 quart 9 in one model that seems to do it all except for the dishes.

Slow cooking a Cajun pot roast and veggies in my Instant Pot. Started it at 4AM. A couple of more hours and it will be ready. It has got the house smelling so good.

When there is a lot of solid volume like soup to the 2/3 line, it will take longer for the indicator to pop up. I have had a couple of cases when cooking soup in this condition, that the pressure indicator didn't actually pop up, but the count down started. i could hear it boiling inside and no steam was coming out of the vent. The indicator eventually popped up and it finished normally. I have seen this conditions documented a couple of times before. Used my thermometer to check just in case.
Loving all my Instant Pots! Use for basically every meal now! As we have started to downsize our stuff in preparation for moving into a smaller place, I wonder what I really need in the way of pots and pans - it is certainly less that we have now! Maybe I will prioritize what I use the most! The IPs will come out on top!

I just got the IP. Amazon had a 9 in 1 on sale for $79 around black Friday. 6 qt. I think my first attempt will be chili.

We liked our 5 qt so much we got a 3 qt for the AS. For Christmas, we got 4 additional IP's for our kids and their families, along with the cook book. Here in Austin, it's been pretty cold...like other places in US this past week. We did Beef Bourguignon last night out of Melissa Clarks new Dinner in an Instant cook book...tomorrow, doing the Clam Chowder from the originally included small cookbook that came with the IP... delicious recipe if you have not tried it! Nothing like Clam Chowder while enjoying a football game with a glass of wine on New Years day! Happy New Years, streamers!

Now that I have the 3 quart, I am using it a lot. Perfect for 2 with a set of leftovers! Great for sides for a big gathering

I must be crazy.
I just found the 3 qt. IP on Amazon warehouse deals for $53.
I'll keep the 6 qt. for home.

Kids are in love with their Christmas IP's! One (foodie) son with 3 small girls, uses it 3-4 times a week since Christmas! Says they just did risotto and it was the best and easiest he has ever had! We just did sauerkraut with potatoes, pork ribs, French onion soup over the top, with polish kielbasa last night in 15 minuets...wonderful, tender, and fast. Like I mentioned, we now leave the 5qt. in the kitchen and use the 3 qt. in the AS....great size for 2.

Agreed. My wife got an IP for Christmas too. She uses it a couple times a week. Already considering adding to our airstream travels. Only issue is how large it is.
When we first started Airstreaming, we got an electric skillet. We use that almost daily on our travels.

Yep, slow cooker only, not the pressure cooker, which is awesome!

The answer is yes but you will need an inverter with enough wattage plus a healthy buffer. Search Google for “van life instant pot” for some guidance.

The Instant Pot Mini is a good size for RVs and I believe only consume up to 700 watts, while the 6 quart consumes up to 1000 watts, I think. For those with the 3 quart model, I picked up a new 2018 cookbook called "Cooking with Your Instant Pot Mini, 100 Quick & Easy Recipes for 3-Quart Models." I have found it useful, especially since the recipe booklet that came with the Instant Pot Mini was actually written for the 6 quart duo model. Odd.

Just FYI...
Not only does rice cook perfectly in the IP, but so do grits.
In the Mini...1 cup coarse yellow grits to 4 cups water and 1/2 tsp salt.
25 minutes on Pressure Cook.
Perfect.

To be forewarned is to be forearmed...I will be extra diligent about making sure I shake my IP around a bit before opening it, after pressure is released manually, in order to let any 'pockets' of pressure release while the lid is on. I know there have been cases where it seems the cookers were improperly opened before the pressure was released...but in this case, pressure was released, lid was removed and sitting on the counter when a 'bubble' of pressure under a roast exploded.

On high, 25 minutes.
The worst thing about cooking grits is the need to stir them frequently...with the IP, you just push the button and go on about whatever you were doing.

We recently got an instant pot. My wife made cubed steak and it turned out wonderful - best ever.
She tried the same recipe a second time and the pot continually went into "error" mode and shut down.
Any idea why this happened?
