Using any 120-volt appliance outside is fine, as long as they are protected from direct rain. We usually set up a small table under the awning, near the exterior duplex outlet, so that we can make toast etc. outside, especially in the summer heat. Not sure if your Interstate has an exterior outlet like this, Delores?

You can also run a separate extension cord from the CG shore power pedestal to any location where you want to set up the Instant Pot, like on the site's picnic table, or inside a "cook's tent" if you use one.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks. We do have an outlet on the interstate. Haven’t taken any camping trips yet, but gathering all of excellent supplies you all have been posting.

We use the Delta Toaster on our propane stove. No need for an electric one, though I admit that toasting with this one will introduce heat inside the RV. (We bought ours via Amazon.) http://www.deltatoast.com/

We got the 3 quart Instant Pot and just used it for the first time. Worked out great for all our meals. I also got the glass lid for non-pressure use. I'm assuming that I can use the inner pot on the propane stove when we're boondocking since it's stainless steel. Has anyone tried that?

Hmmm...they didn’t have the glass lid when I bought my 3 qt, but I’m going to get one.

I don’t know why you couldn’t use the stainless steel pot on the propane burners, tho don’t know if a high flame might alter it some and therefore affect its performance as part of the IP.

I think I’d be careful doing this, and perhaps continue to use traditional pots over burners.

Ditto -- I doubt if the stainless pot is rated for a direct hot propane flame IMO. It may distort in shape and change color, not to mention probably void the warranty.

Chicken tortellini soup, prepared in my 3 qt IP...

1 thawed chicken breast, cooked in 1 qt chicken broth, removed and pulled apart with forks, returned to pot now on Sauté, with one package fresh cheese tortellini.

Cook til done, add a bit of salt and fresh black pepper, top with good Parmesan cheese....Voila!

You could add fresh spinach to this as well, for a balanced meal in a bowl.

DW just did brisket, Costco size so she did half in the IP and half in the oven as an experiment. IP won hands down!

I have done ribs in mine a couple of times, now, and really enjoy the lack of serious pre-planning needed to have a delicious meal in a short period of time.

Try adding some sweet Italian sausage, cut up, along with a can of diced tomatoes and some oregano....wow!

Maggie I have read that you can put frozen meat in the pot. Just takes longer to come to pressure.

Yes, Gloria, and my first cooking in the IP as I recall was chicken noodle soup starting with frozen chicken breasts...took about 30 minutes, and was as delicious as if it had cooked all day.

I have moved on from my IP and am now into Sous Vide and Air Fryers. I see both traveling with us.

Less than a year ago, the smallest air fryer I could find was a 3.5-liter model. It would not fit in any of my kitchen cabinets and took up way too much room on my limited countertop space, and I had to store it on the floor of a closet when not in use. It would have been completely impractical to bring along in my Airstream Interstate, unless I belted it into a seat and treated it like a passenger. That one didn't last long before I donated it to Goodwill just to get it out of the way.

But recently (this morning, after reading your post, in fact) I've found a "personal" compact air fryer (Dash DCAF150GBAQ02) with a small 1.2-liter capacity that might be a viable choice for carrying in my Airstream. Only problem is it's a (to me) ugly aqua color that some may find cute but I don't, and I haven't decided if it's worth paying $10 more to get the same unit in a more appealing red or black color. By the time I get home from this camping trip, I'll have made up my mind which color to get— but regardless of color I'll definitely get one!

Right now the red is actually cheaper, probably because of Amazon's dynamic pricing based on supply and demand:

I have noticed while Christmas shopping that Amazon's prices are below normal this week. Time to grab the brass ring!

Just to close the loop on the question of using the inner pot on the stovetop, I looked on the Amazon questions and the "manufacturer" had said yes, you can use it on the stovetop. But I emailed Instant Pot customer support directly and they said there was a small chance that it might warp and affect the contact with the heating element.

So I guess I have to buy more stuff!

I'm camping in my Airstream right now, and won't be home until sometime Wednesday. So I'll place my order on Monday to make sure it doesn't arrive before I do. Packages left on my doorstep in the meantime may not be there when I get home. Such is life in the big city.
