Wow; your right. They sure did not make that one obvious this model is avalible...looks like difference is few more settings and Yogurt mode in the "7 in one", I got couple days ago. Not sure Yogurt and 5 more settings makes mine worth the extra $10, but wife's happy, so not going to mess with it!

After using the bigger 5Qt model over past year, we think this model is the perfect size for the 2 of us on the road!

Wow Maggie, I hadn't seen the 6 in 1 mini - Great to know the option is available!

Today, I made a one pot Meatball and Penne dish that was delicious - in the 3 quart Instant Pot.

Recipe:

- Put 1 cup water in the bottom of the pot
- Add in meatballs to cover the bottom in one layer (I made raw homemade ground beef and sweet Italian Sausage meatballs with panko breadcrumbs, egg, farm cheese and dried basil/oregano)
- Add 1 jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce (24-26 ounce size)
- Add 8 ounces penne pasta (1/2 box)
- Put some water in the jar (about half full) and swish around to get the leftover sauce
- Pour the water in the pot until the liquid comes up to the 1/2 mark on the instant pot liner
- Use a spoon and gently push down the pasta into the liquid until it is covered.
- High pressure for 7 minutes and then quick release after 5 minutes
- Open pot; stir and use saute to cook down sauce if there is too much liquid
- Serve with a bit of grated parmesan cheese

I have read that one can use frozen cooked meatballs also with the same timing. The Instant Pot will just take longer to come to pressure due to the temperature of the frozen component.

This makes 4 dinner sized portions and freezes well.

Or... Meatballs in sauce for Meatball subs

- 1 Jar Sauce
- 3/4 cup water (may need more depending on how many meatballs are used)
- Meat balls as desired - Meat balls need to be covered with sauce/water so adjust as meatballs are increased - I generally don't go above the 1/2 mark on the instant pot liner for the dish
- High pressure for 7 minutes and Quick Release after 5 minutes
- Open pressure cooker and saute down if thicker sauce desired

I love that you can cook sauce ingredients in the IP, then add the pasta and cook it right in there, too...the ultimate one dish meal, one item to clean up, etc.

My 3 qt arrives today...

There is now an Instant Pot app available, with all the recipes and information of the website in it.

Hi Gloria!

I love my Instant Pot, too. I use it regularly.
I also have a large rice cooker. I have been eyeing the smaller ones because mine is several years old and the built in gasket is starting to come apart.

Hope to see you at Alumalina.

Hmmm...I only know of one, it is a red IP icon, and popped up on their website.

Seems to be very inclusive, from what I can see.

My small one came a bit ago, and I have beef and portobello mushrooms cooking in it as I write..

Quite a difference in size.

First one that comes up on my phone apps when I key in "Instapot" is the red one from Instapot...It does not have as high rating (3.2 stars) as others after it, that is why I was asking which one you recommend...
I just downloaded "Electric Pressure Cooker Recipes" app which has 4 stars, and I notice it has references to Instapot in directions. Looks pretty good so far in the ones I read; will give it a try and report back.

It’s the only app I have looked at, so I have nothing to compare it to , but it seems to have the identical content to their website, which I have since deleted from my bookmarks.

I’m not a big app user for recipes, in general, preferring more traditional means, but they do have their place.

I have joined the instant pot Facebook group. It has a ton of recipies and they will answer any question you ask. I was making French onion soup and was concerned with the small amount of liquid the recipe called for, so I asked the group about it. Got an instant response.

I did 1/2 rack of ribs in my 3qt IP today, using the recipe in their app...8oz apple juice in bottom, salt and pepper both sides, drizzle lightly with BBQ sauce, pressure cook 25 minutes, allow 5 minutes natural release before releasing manually.

Delicious, tender, and flavorful.

I've read how much you Airstreamers like the IP, but I hesitated buying another slow cooker. However, yesterday, Amazon had the six qt. Duo 9 in 1 for $75. I ordered one, and if I come to my senses before it arrives, I'll send it as a Christmas gift.
Today, the price was $119. Maybe I'll keep it.

Strangely, I'd like it better if it didn't have a "porridge" setting.

Just purchased the 3 qt. IP. instructions, which says not to use outdoors. Any input or issues using it outdoors?

I think that outdoor precautions would apply as to any electric appliance...not in the rain, etc.

I have used my crockpot outside many times, and intend to do the same with the IP.

I don't think you have to worry about the porridge setting or any other setting as most recipes just call for a manual setting and a Time. I have the 6 quart and a 3 quart and I love them both

We decided on a stove top pressure cooker, chose the Presto 8 quart just so we could use it dry camping. It fits under our sink even with the top on. Tried it for the first time last night on a standard beef stew. Seared the meat first in the bottom, added the other ingredients and buttoned it up. Cooked the meal in 15 minutes. The meal came out great. Easier to clean than our crock pot. The 8 quart has a quick release valve to release the pressure for recipes requiring quick pressure release, the 6 qt didn't have this feature. We gave our small crock pot to our daughter.

Couple update comments

1) We found the 3Qt. IP at WallMart for $59.00, after we paid $79.00 on Amazon. We moved the 5.5 Qt. the kitchen and now use the 3Qt. in the AS.
2) We feel a little safer using the IP electric pressure cooker over manual fire "stove top" models; we had one of the stove top models kind of "explode" several years ago, when we were running under cold water...not a nice experience and wife would not go back to using. The IP has very good safety valve and design for our needs.
3) we just did wild rice in 30 min. for Thanksgiving dressing...turned out great!
4) got the new Milissa Clark cook book, "Dinner in an Instant" couple weeks ago; excellent cook book....check it out.
