You could check with Philip on the install of a Wedgewood. It was smaller than the original and he and the dealer got it in wonderfully! I LOVE it!!!

Using the Gas Oven
We don't really use the oven much during the hot summer months in Texas, but during the winter when we camp, I usually make a casserole and freeze it in a small glass pyrex and stick it in the fridge before we leave. It takes a day or two for it to thaw out. Microwaves are great for a lot of things, but not for everything and nothing is better during the winter than letting the gas oven assist in keeping the coach nice warm, and smelling good. I've made box cake mixes, but I've never tried cookies. Pilot lighting is a bit of an ordeal to me, but stubborn persistence usually accomplishes alot.

We use the oven all the time. We even cooked Thanksgiving Dinner in ours for 5 people...a 10lb turkey fit in the oven just fine. We also make pizzas, corn bread, all kinds of things. We enjoy camping without hookups in our '06 Bambi 19'.

Finally
Hi, this weekend at San Clemente State Beach we used our oven for the first time. First time we used it to store cooking items in it; And first time to actually cook something in it. It was somewhat difficult to light, but after it was lit, it worked great. We plan to use it more now.

Oven use
We use oven all the time.
We use an inexpensive pizza stone to even out the heat.

The oven unit in my 1975 Soverein was missing, so I am replacing it with a combo microwave/convection oven.
Our other camper has a full size stove, and we never use the oven in it, and do alot of dry camping.

We fulltime and boondock all the time...I mean all the time. Like, I have not seen a real stove/oven in two years unless at someone elses house. I think we need a thread of what you can not make without an oven and can't be done in a microwave. (and turn out good)

We use the oven frequently. However, since we ARE camping, we cook outside as much as possible...grill, dutch oven, open fire. The oven augments for dishes not well prepared outside, and comes in handy when the weather does not cooperate.

A damp, cool morning makes use of the oven just right for biscuits and gravy or just biscuits with jelly.

I just threw out my microwave and toaster oven and put in an old magic chef oven and I love it. There is nothing more fun then cooking with gas...everything tastes better and you have more control of the heat. What's the hurry really...I like it when it takes a long time to cook something. I'm almost disappointed when it's over.

We use our oven and cooktop often, it's hard to beat fresh hot rolls for breakfast. As for the mircowave we don't use it much at home either mainly just for warm ups. We also boondock and the stove and oven are always ready to go. Best wishes in your remodel. Mike

Oven w/cooktop? Yes! We had Cupcake for 5 years before we found out the oven didn't work while sno-birding for several wks in 2007. We spent 2 1/2 mos. in the south last winter and I liked having a new stove and working oven. I 've met a few gals who love their convection ovens and I learned they can also bake like a reg. oven.
Just a wee tad off topic:
My big deal is not being able to find baking/cookie sheets to fit the oven. The "camping" ones are toaster oven size and the one I've found that does fit is the smallest in a set of three and I have no use for the other two. A couple of decent 10" X 14" sheets with rolled edges would be my ideal.
A 12 X 12 unglazed terra cotta tile (Lowe's - $1.45) works well on the oven rack. Placing it on the botton of the oven, our tile broke in half quickly while pre heating. It is now on the oven rack and does a pretty good job evening the temperature out. I've not seen a cheap pizza stone as yet and wonder if they are better than the tile.

My sentiments EXACTLY! And, since we frequently camp without hook-ups, our microwave gets little use....in fact, I cannot even remember the last time we used it!
I guess, one of the questions you need to ask is whether you will have the "juice" to power a microwave wherever it is that you camp....either electricity or a generator. No matter where you go, the oven will always work....presuming you have your tanks filled

I found a small cookie sheet that works perfectly, at Tuesday Morning, so I know they are out there. Sorry, I don't have the label anymore so I can't tell you the brand but it is the perfect size. It wasn't cheap, tho. I think I paid $10 or more for it. Check places like Masterson's and other kitchen specialty places.
I have used my oven, tho I need an oven rack for it. Anybody got an extra one out there? Has to be 16 x 16 1/2" for my small magic chef. I works as well as the new stove I have in my house. I doubt if it was ever used much, it really wasn't even dirty when we bought the trailer, just dusty.

Cook Wanted
Our 28ft CCD came with a micro/conv oven and a stove top ,however it did not come with a cook, so the "Beau dog" and i do not use either one.The position for a cook is open. BILL
