I was wondering what your favorite cookbooks are while traveling?

I've been copying my favourite recipes from a myriad of cookbooks for "the road."

I do not want to clutter my AS or weigh it down with umpteen cookbooks.

Recipes also have to work with whatever cooking utensils are inside Airstream. I have a favourite cheese fondue recipe, but will not be in the road book because I do not want to take fondue pot and related utensils, etc.

White Trash Cooking and White Trash Cooking II, both have some of the best recipes ever invented and great to use on the road. Some of my all time favorite recipes have come from these 2 books. Fun to read as well.

Favorite cookbook

I don't have a single favorite, but something that I enjoy doing while traveling is to acquire "community-based" cookbooks at church bazarrs, fleamarkets, etc. Often, these cookbooks make use of regional foods that are plentiful in season . . . or have recipes for ethnic foods common to the area/region. I typically have two or three such cookbooks in my trailer and rotate out the books that I don't use once or twice a year and add them to the collection in my study.

Overlander64, that's one of my favorite things to do too. My poor husband trails along behind me as I search for fun books and I feel sorry for him but he never complains when it comes time to eat!

I'm a chef and so most of mine are in my head and I have my family favorites written down that I leave at home. I'm thinking of recopying them and putting them in the AS. (our maiden voyage is next weekend and I can't wait) My mother wrote a cookbook and I called her the other day to ask for another copy of it to keep in my AS. So there you have it. I'm all over the board.

Some of my favorites (these go in the MH always)

All these are still in print:
The Huntsville Heritage Cookbook (Alabama; Junior League-45 years since original publishing - my home town so I'm partial to this one), The Silver Palate (about 30 years old), Harold McGee - On Food and Cooking (Food Science), Ratio, Cooking for Geeks,
THe New Best Recipe & More Best Recipes (Cooks Illustrated), Supernatural Cooking (Swanson) and The Splendid Table Podcast (splendidtable.publicradio.org/podcast). I also always have the Joy of Cooking with me.

Be sure and get the rest of it, too. It's plain text format (zipped), but the beef part, while nicely formatted in a pdf, is only a small part.

Also, welcome to the forums!

My Go To Cookbook

My go to cookbook is Joy of Cooking. I love cookbooks, I collect recipes. Some recipes I have in the A/S. But as a basic, do what needs to be done cookbook...great reference...as Bill says...Joy of Cooking!

The Airstreamer's Cookbook

We really enjoy the new cookbook, The Airstreamer's Cookbook, put out by 4CU - The Four Corners Unit of the WBCCI.

The dishes included have been prepared in members' Airstreams for happy hours and potlucks at Four Corners Unit Rallies.

This spiral bound, colorful, compact cookbook travels well, fits nicely in the magazine rack, and has recipes especially suited for the Airstream lifestyle.

Additional information is found in the article "Cooks, books, and dreamers," in the blog, History Safari Express, on the Airstream Life Online Community.

This cookbook can be purchased by contacting fourcorners.wbcci.net
