electric griddle - flipping breaker

Quick question... one of my camping buddies always brings her electric griddle to make breakfast. I've noticed that every time she plugs that thing in (directly to the campground power), it pops the breaker. I don't dare let her hook it up to my exterior outlet!

It seems like a pretty good idea though - the electric griddle. I'm wondering if hers is malfunctioning or if they draw too much electricity (amp, watt, volt, whatever) .... What do ya'll think?

turn it over and read the total watts. If it is less than 1500 watts it should not pop a 20 amp breaker as long as nothing else is plugged into that circuit. If it is popping a 20 amp circuit see if anything else goes off at the same time. If so that is the additional load that is putting you over the top.

The grill should work fine as long as it is along on a 20 amp circuit.

Now if this happened only once at a single campground that campground may have problems or just a weak breaker. Try it on more than one circuit.

Cool - thanks HowieE. It has happened twice - once directly at the campground and once via exterior outlet on her mom's RV. I'll get my own this time - maybe an electric skillet!

We find that one of these works great.

We use electric griddles all over the midwest in campgrounds the only time we have a problem is when we are trying to run two or three on the same circut. I would say hers is bad.

Electric Griddle

Yeah, the electric griddle can be of great help if you want to cook a fast breakfast . However, first you have to find one that would function good, and some of the cheap electric griddles probably won't last long.
