I think this was an old Bryon DO recipe. It's a bag of frozen O'Brien potatoes, a quarter head of cabbage shreadded, one tin of corned beef all heated together. When hot, make indents and place eggs, bake until eggs are to your liking.

Is there going to be a fall rally?

We have plans to be in Tennessee in October, with the DO rally on our agenda if it occurs.

Just got one...made a pot roast, and cooked over a fire vs coals...turned out great. Found another recipe for red potatoes w/ bacon, onions, and added cheese at the end. Both were great!

Cadmus master bake pot

Hello! I just purchased and interesting piece of cookware for outdoor cooking with our Airstreams. Has anyone used one of these?I happen to find the 1920 recipe booklet too and its being mailed to me. Ebay item number is 270676603966 if you want to see the pictures. We have to do some restoration work on it first but my hubby will handle that as long as I promise yummy food later!

I hope you were refering to a dutch oven perhaps? If you can put a pot in an oven you can cook in a dutch oven. The only difference is the pot becomes the oven. By putting coals on top of the lid and under the pot, the heat from the coals does the cooking. There are tons of books out there to guide you, but the best rule of thumb is what ever the diameter of the pot subtract 2 from the diameter and put that many coals under the pot. In the same manner with the top you add 2 coals. That will get most cooking done until you get the hang of it.

This is one of our favorite one-pot dishes, and I bet it would work well over a fire, good hearty stuff for camping, Baked Beans. The recipe is from the big yellow Gourmet cookbook. I use the very best stuff I can get-

2C navy beans (I've used pintos in a pinch and it was quite good)
soak over night, drain and add to Dutch oven. Add the following:

1t (+) dry mustard
one 8 oz ham hock or shank, get a good one
4 cups water, to just cover
2/3 cup maple syrup, the real stuff
1 t salt
1/2 black pepper, or more to taste
1 c or more yellow onion diced
bring it all to a boil and then slow cook for 2 hours, covered. Recipe says to uncover for next 1 1/2 hours so that moisture evaporates, but I say just cook until the meat falls off the bone and the beans are right. You can take out the meat and dice it, remove the bones. Yummy with sausages and sour kraut, or on its own, it's meaty.

Directions on back [Some GPS are wrong]

On I -40 take Exit 417 to Dandridge, TN. Turn south on 92 [at bottom of ramp]. Follow 92 over big green bridge. Go about 7 miles to Indian Creek Road [also 363] and turn left. Go less than 1 mile to Sandy Ridge Road and turn left. Go about 1/2 mile to Stillhouse Road [just past white picket fence on your left] and turn right. Go to first road on your right at bottom of steep hill. Turn onto Very Old Barton Trail and follow to our house. We have all the huge rocks at our driveway. Turn right and follow gravel drive to your right. This will take you to our cooking area.

Hi Richard (Azflycaster).

I am going to try your cherry cobbler this weekend, and this may sound like a crazy question, but I want to get it right. You said to pour the contents of a white cake mix in, but didn't mention whether to prepare it as the box suggests or not. Are you saying to pour the "dry" contents in, or mix it as you would if baking a cake and then pour in?

Thanks so much.

Deb
