Question Cooking and Culinary Sub-forum

I love to cook - as do many other Streamers. But... what I'm finding is the food related information here is pretty sparse. Not many threads out there offering this kind of information.

What does everyone think about having a sub-forum on campground cuisine? It could be a place to share information on cooking, recipes, great food finds on the road, local places to shop, farmer's markets, cooking equipment etc etc etc.

What does everyone think??

We've discussed it before and thought our sister site http://www.discusscooking.com/ was already set up just for that sort of thing. But I know what you mean.

i.e., a specific decision was made not to start a cooking subforum here. Their moderators likewise would balk at an Airstream subforum over at discusscooking.com. But I see it's not necessary! About halfway down their forum page they've got an outdoor cooking forum. Tho' I recognize not all Airstreamin' grinds are prepared outside.

Discusscooking is an nice forum but it's not much different than any other food forums out there.

What I had in mind with a sub-forum here is that it would be specific to cooking while camping in an Airstream (or orher RV).

It could be a place to discuss and share...

- favorite recipes that are perfect for camping
- tell about a cool place to shop for food while on the road
- adapting meals and recipes from a home recipe
- favorite or different ways of prepariong meal in an RV
- entertaining in an AS
- cooking equipment and gadgets that are perfect for the trailer
etc

I guess an analogy would be the pet forum which discusses pet issues on the road. There are scores of pet websites out there but the pet sub-forum here discusses it at it relates to Streamin'. What I'm suggesting is a sub-forum as it relates to cooking (and entertaining etc) to trailer life.

I would be nice to discuss it here with where we could find it in one spot and not have to dig through a lot of unrelated information on another website. I seriously doubt we'd be stepping on anyone's toes to discuss cooking in an Airstream here.

Hmmmm... instead of actually calling it a "cooking" subforum it could be something else related to the kitchen and meal preparation.

I have always wanted something like this because you cant always use the same measurements for a meal comming out of a magic shef oven and time and temp may vary.

It has been discussed by the mods/admins several times...and always decided it was to broad of an off-topic subject for Air(stream)Forums.

I don't get it - what's too broad about having a place to ask questions about the issues related to using the galley of an Airstream?

Every year, make & model of Airstream has different layouts and equipment. If a member has a specific question about theirs, it can be asked in the Trailer Sub-Forum for that make & model.

That's different than the original question:

Which I took to be more recipe oriented...THAT is too broad of a off-topic subject.

I think I was a little too quick to post the thread without thinking more of the things that could be grouped in a sub-forum like this. I really don't mean it to be a recipe archive although some recipes could be shared here.

It would also be the kind of place where someone could ask about using a crock pot on an inverter, how to deal with the refrigerator items while going from campsite to campsite, how do you store glassware etc etc etc. These are all topics specifc to us which are not covered by some of the other food discussion forums websites. And... many of these topics are difficult to search in the archives for. Thus, if there was one sub-forum to cover them it might be nice to have.

Hi Jimandrod,

You can find many of your answers under appliances and various other posts. I have always found that, if I had a question about the refrigerator, stove oven etc.....I can get the answers I need.

I guess I have camped for so long that I am set in my ways regarding what food/recipes appeal to me. I would prefer to see that we stick to what the forum is intended for....Airstreams and how they work, can be repaired etc....

Please take no offense.....just my preference.

Pot Luck ideas

I, for one, would be interested in a thread about good food to cook in the Airstream for pot luck meals at rallies.......because we don't have a lot of storage space in the refrigerator and freezer.....or in the kitchen generally....I think we could have some fun with a cooking thread.....pj
