Campfire Cones

Saw this on another site (Thanks "Chin Up") and can hardly wait to try - Campfire Cones!

You'll need the plain or sugar waffle cones. Buy a box or stop at an ice-cream stand and see if they will sell you some. They often make their own and are better than the boxed ones.

Then get yourself some of your favourite fixings: mini marshmallows, chocolate/butterscotch chips, graham wafer crumbs, assorted nuts, dried fruit, cookie crumbs - Oreo would be fantastic - leftover cake, crumbled granola bars....whatever.

Put them out in a muffin tin like this. Ahhh, the freedom of choice.

Fill cone with desired fixings, wrap in foil, then place around edge of campfire (or on top of grill) until melted.

Happiness is a warm ice-cream cone.

Well, it sure looks good but... I'm confused. Is there any ice cream in there, or just the fixings? If it's without the ice cream, I'd just load mine with chocolate!

you could always top it with a scoop of your favorite ice cream...just leave a little room at the top!

Yes, put ice cream in yours. Wrap in foil and put it by the fire for an hour.

oooo....someone's weisenheiming.

But to answer the question, no, you do not put the ice-cream into the cone because you'd end up with a soggy mess.

Johnco gets the campfire cook award today for his suggestion; leave some room at the top and add ice-cream when ready to eat. Then it is a true "Campfire Cone."

Three scoops for that John! Bravo!

m-m-m-m-m.....I know what I'm going to put into mine. Lots of bananas. They will go all warm and squishy. What else? I know! Walnuts with chunks of banana muffin or plain cake and a bit of amaretto to keep it moist. Amaretto-banana cake in a cone.

How many miles a day do I have to jog on my bad knee to burn that calorie count gain off??????

If I'm going to have to run 20 miles a day, I won't have any time to go camping???

physical activity

ahhh, PA, if you will, assuming you weigh 260 pounds; moderate jogging is considered high intensity and burns 15 cal/minute! assuming 6 miles an hour; thats 60 x 15 = 900 calories/hour. ice cream is 350-600 calories per 8 oz cup. So that means a double scoop + toppings is gonna come in around 1200-1500 calories. MINIMUM. so two hours or 12 miles of jogging oughta take care of the campfire cone...just sayin'

I can imagine perhaps marshmallows, jumbo chocolate chips, some walnut pieces, all melted and gooey from the fire----with vanilla ice cream and perhaps some chocolate sauce drizzled on top.

You could get someone else to drive the rig, chain you to the bumper - voila! You'll still get to your destination while burning-up the calories to enjoy your campfire cone.

Rich desserts are a bit like sex!

You sometimes have to just dream the experience or pay the penalty. (and that can get expensive)

ps: She has me on a chain now!!!!

That is an Awesome Idea!!!
We should start an Airstream/campfire recipe thread. I know that i have started many trips with more of ambition and much more leftover food!
I like this because it is nice and easy!

It's easy to start a trip with one weight, and come home heavier. And I'm not talking about the trailer.

No. It's a German beer.
