Big Green Egg
Anybody have a Big Green Egg that they take with their Airstream? If so, how are you doing it?

I love my egg, but have given up on taking it anywhere as it's so heavy. Have been thinking about getting one of these egg knock off big steel keg just for traveling - they get good reviews and are much lighter, and even have a trailer hitch receiver mount...

UAP -- I'd put some lead bricks on the seat to make sure the airbag's child-disconnect isn't engaged.
Do ya really travel with one of these? Hope we're camping nearby... :wink:

Bob, no, we do not really take it with us everywhere ... however, we've done it a few times on short trips when food is the focus (e.g., Thanksgiving).
We love cooking with the egg, but traveling with one is nearly impossible. We bought a second "small" egg, but it just doesn't cook as well and won't hold temperatures long enough to smoke. I was hoping someone would have come up with some brilliant and simple solution.
When we leave home, the two things we miss most is our Big Green Egg and our three hens (that each lay a fresh egg everyday). I guess you can't take it all with you!

The Cobb BBQ is about as close to being the "egg" as anything I have found. Same principle anyway and it fits in the storage in the back of our AS. Pretty cool outfit IMHO.

We love our big green egg at home when we can't be in our Argosy MoHo. We have a small Olympia SS gas grill that mounts on the side of our motorhome with a gas quick connect. It is easy and cooks well, we also put a griddle top on it an cook out side on it a lot.
We have the best of both worlds our Jumbo big green egg in our back yard when we have all week-end to slow cook. (This makes staying home not so bad.) Then the covenience of gas when we'er camping and on the go. The small gas grill/cook top allows me to cook breakfast outside when I wouldn't on the green egg.

Our Egg lives on the porch. It's well used and loved, but I can't see cleaning it up for a road trip!

I don't know how the flower pot smoker compares with the green egg (cause I don't have a green egg), but I think the concept is the same. I take my flower pot smoker with me when I camp, but after I transported it home in my vehicle last time, it smelled good enough to lick the inside of my vehicle for quite a while! I'm sure I smelled pretty smokey too (maybe that's why the dogs licked me all over when I got home!) I love my flower pot smoker (or Hill Billy smoker as my sons like to call it). I've got some King Mackeral thawing in the sink right now to smoke it in Saturday. YUM!

Oh My GOODNESS!!!! Thank you! I am a total foodie and can't believe I've never encountered this. The bottom looks like a standard pot but I'm not so sure of the top ...is this a kit? I love the fact that he's in an airstream and am digging the spice cabinet...was that custom? Thanks for the vid wswingfield

The top is another standard pot, just a shallow one.
soldiermedic is probably the best known forum "pot smoker." I've sampled his smoked food and certainly recommend the process. Check this out . 4 racks of beef ribs cooked for 6-7 hours . Wrap in foil reheat over fire ,oven or barbecue. Perfect

I just welded an extension on the back of my vintage 64 overlander. I made a small deck so I can stand next to it, but we usually just keep the cooler there when we travel. The great part about the extra weight in the back is that it takes some of the weight off the tongue.
Should I say I'm joking now, or let a couple heart attacks free up some more airstreams for the rest of us?
Actually I use a webber grill with meat thermometer and smokenator. It works wonderfully. I have to check it once an hour or 2, but other than that, It's very simple to maintain the right temp. I have smoked a ton of meats that way, including times when it was freezing outside. I'll probably just take the legs off it, and put it in the back of the truck when we go camping.
