That was rockin' deal!

We paid over $200 for our Weber Q-what with the 20 pound propane tank conversion hose, wheeled cart/riser and the grill cover.

We love ours. We own a Road Trip Grill as well as a Fire and Ice Grill and like the Weber Q best for traveling. It puts out an impressive amount of btu's, yet can be adjusted to a very low flame. The side "tables" fold into the grill for storage and it's relatively lightweight, has a small footprint and is portable. It lives in our Airstream until we need to use it.

I got to admit I like the price on that Weber Q.

I opted for the Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill. (I paid full price $45)
I like the rectangular shape ( 21" X 12"), the legs fold up and you can carry it all in one piece, plus the side vent controls work nice for indirect cooking.
Like all the other Weber's it heavy guage and a decent enamel finish. Be careful there is a Charbroil on the market that looks a lot like this model but it is thin guage steel and I'm sure it won't hold up in the long run

I bought the Weber Q100 today for my hubby. Can't decide whether to give it to him for Father's Day or our 36th anniversary. Can't wait to try it out.

We bought the weber q for memorial day camping. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed in the performance. We cooked a tri-tip on it, and I had to keep turning it off to keep the heat down. It does not go low enough to cook big pieces of meat. Perhaps its better suited for hamburgers etc. I do however feel the size and portability is perfect.

We use this one, too...since we prefer charcoal grilling (when we can have charcoal fires, which is not all the time in AZ)...it is compact and packs well in the truck bed...we carry charcoal inside it to save room...

Campfire-In-A-Can

Like I mentioned in another thread, we love our Campfire-in-a-can ("classic", non-gas model), which burns wood, charcoal or composite logs (CleanFlame logs are the best composites). We've BBQ'd over charcoal in it, then use the still-hot coals to quick-start a campfire in it as well. Great dual-use fireplace that complies with all metal-contained, off-the-ground fire regulations in the places we boondock. The photos were taken in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (CA), where free off-road camping is the rule, not the exception.

I have been researching grills for several weeks now and went out & read about the Cobb Premier Portable CB041 Grill - nice and you can use it as a smoker. Be still my heart. Just ordered it & portable ice maker on Overstock.com. Shipping cost me $1. That is my kind of shipping charge.

Thanks for the tip, Mexray.

You're going to love it -- I've had mine for a couple of years and cooked many meals on it.

There is a product that I use for cleaning that you may want to check out. It's Dawn Power Dissolver. Comes in a blue bottle. Can usually find it at Wal-Mart. It's good stuff.

The All In One Portable Grill

This is my version on what a portable grill should be It is a gas grill, has an adjustable grate for using charcoal, a smoker and has a rotisserie! It will go down to a low 200 degrees or a high of 550 + degrees using gas. I can close everything up and snuff out a fire or anything that is burning. The only negative to this is the weight of 40 lbs. The unit does all this right out of the box except for the gas burner which I installed. I also did some extra closing of the rotisserie openings for better smoking and made a cap for the burner when I'm not using it.

I have posted this before, but my best choice for a portable gas grill is the Magma Marine Kettle. All stainless, all parts are replaceable and there are nice features like legs to stand the unit on picnic tables (what us rv folks need) and storage bags for the unit itself. I've used mine for years and only had to replace the worn/burned out mesh that holds the ceramic briquettes. They can be had at any marine store such as West Marine. Here is the web site for the grill I use (many other models are available):

For those of you who use the small bottles of propane with your grill, how do you dispose of them? Even the Household Hazardous Waste Center won't take them here in K.C. Best wishes, John

What is the brand of this grill? It looks real interesting and I would like to check it out.

Dennis, Here is a link to it:Char-Broil | Grills / Cookers / Fireplaces | Charcoal Grills & Cookers | CB500X Portable Charcoal Grill

I did not use the Char-Broil rotisserie. The price was a little high for me. WalMart had a much better price, but it did take a little modifying to make it work.

I'm in love with the Snow Peak BBQ Box:

Snow Peak also make a BBQ Grill that's a little larger, but it does not have the lid:

It can be used as a stand-alone unit, or with the Snow Peak IGT Table:

The beauty of the IGT table is that you can continue to grow your set-up with items such as a Dutch Oven pan:

Two burner stove:

There are lots of other options, too. Some are pretty darn cool. It all packs down pretty small, too. You pay for it, but it's really nice quality stuff!

I have the Magma "Catalina" series grill that we have used since 2006 and it cooks flawlessly. It can reach high temps quickly and all parts are stainless steel so there should never be a worry about corrosion. Would highly recommend Magma grills.

I have two;

(1) a Weber Smokey Joe charcoal grill. I'm on my second one...got ten years out of the first one.

(2) a Weber Q220 gas grill. It's just about the same as the Q200, but it has a taller lid with a thermometer in it.

As for the low heat on the Weber the one person pointed out, that is true. It's hard to get it down to 200 or so on just the heat knob. What I do is just crack the lid open slightly. Do that and you can get the heat down as low as you need. Otherwise, it's hard to get it much below 300.

On the disposal of the small bottles, once emptied they make great targets. Perforate it with a .22 a few dozen times and you're good to go

Check with the campground office where you are staying. Many offer recycling programs for these bottles. Also, look around the dumpster for recycling bins and see if one is marked for this purpose. If all else fails, take them back home with you and check with your local recycling center. You may be able to get them recycled through an avenue other than Household Hazardous Waste.

These bottles can be refilled and re-used. However, I don't recommend trying to refill them yourself.

Another option might be a 5-lb propane bottle and the hose accessory to connect them. These have a standard LP tank connection and can be refilled any where you get your LP tanks filled for the trailer.
