portable grill

I carry two a cobb great for smoking, roasting, grilling uses only 8 to 10 bricquets comes with all in one carry bag. I also carry an O-grill that runs on propane when I'm in a hurry or places that don't allow fires of any kind. Starts first time every time comes with a carry bag legs fold up lid locks slide in bag and go. Runs on any propane source 20b tank or any of the 1lb bottles. Good camping all. Rand

Reducing the image size will allow it to display in the proper orientation.

I also have a Volcano grill. Extremely versatile. I've been using it for camping, both gas and charcoal, griddle, grate, or dutch oven. Not many grills that can do all that.

I also recently made a hose attachment without the pressure regulator that I'm hoping will work with the AS's LP port. I hope to try it in a few weeks.

We got the BGE MiniMax for camping as well but after a cross country trip decided it was too heavy so we use it at home. Our Airstreaming is all long distance travel, if camping locally we would definitely bring it along.

We use a Weber Q with stand, usually with the optional cast iron griddle on one side and grill on the other. Does a terrific job.

I so love this grill! I'll fight to bring it as long as I am able to lift it or store it!
How long that is is a matter of debate as I pinched a nerve (recovering nicely thank you!) in my back lifting my Honda EU 3000is generator (150 pounds with fuel) a few weeks ago! I traded it in immediately toward a pair of EU2000i's...

Someday I'm sure I will decide that the MiniMax is too heavy and large to bring along too but for now...

Bruce, I'm with you on the quality of the BGE MiniMax, it probably is the best portable grill. I think it was designed with tailgating in mind.

I would love to find a way to hook a hose extension up from the coach's lp to the Cuisinart Petit Gourmet, but have not found any hose that would work available at Camping World or my local RV dealer.

Try stopping at your local propane dealer.
I do not mean the store with the Blue Rhino setup but a real propane dealer.
Mine had everything I needed to modify our trailer for an outlet...

Solaria Anywhere Grill, love it. IMO better than the Webber Q100 that I used for last 3 years

The only single solution seems to be the BGE MiniMax. Having a BGE, I would love to use this on the road---but that weight thing!

Since we ( DW and I ) Would miss low and slow cooking with the smoky flavor, we decided to order a Old Smokey Charcoal Grill. Inexpensive, so if doesn't work out to our expectations, we aren't out much.

We also like seared steaks, so we also ordered a Lodge cast iron charcoal Hibachi style grill.

In addition, we already have a two burner propane camp stove and a Lodge 20" X 10" cast iron grill to handle the quick breakfast chore. Bacon & eggs and home fries and pan cakes on a cast iron grill is hard to beat.

Yes, it's a lot of appliances but we have the room to store them in our 2006 Dodge 2500 megacab long bed and all three appliances weigh less than the BGE. Besides, good food is important to us and our plan is for extended living on the road.

I will post a review of the Old Smokey after I've had a chance to use it.

I have been reading this forum since we got the idea to buy a travel trailer and we owe all of you a huge thank you for all the information we have learned.

I started with a Weber Smokey Joe, next was a Woodflame, then bought a Cobb full kit, and finally a Volcano with the propane attachment. Of the four the Cobb was a big disappointment and I wish I had not wasted the money on it. The Volcano is nice when you are not allowed to use flame. The Woodflame was nice but the forge fan controller finally gave out and I sold it for parts. The one that I always travel with is the original Weber Smokey Joe.

If you don't mind my asking, why was the Cobb a big disappointment?

It cooks good enough if you like rubber skin chicken. :-) Steaks don't get a real good sear on the first side and none on the second side. I think it may actually be OK for a big meatloaf patty but have not tried it. Next time is surfaces in the garden shed I will likely sell it.

You're right about it not searing meats, but it's not really made for that. Think of it less as a charcoal grill and more as a charcoal oven, and you'll do better with it.

We also just bought an O-Grill 500 for our new AI EXT GT - and we love it. Easy setup; clean-up and cooks great, especially if there is only two of you. Check out this on YouTube: Sold in lots of places such as CampingWorld and Amazon - and the price is right!

Couldn't decide. We ended up with the Weber Q1200 for our Airstream travels, and Big Green Egg MiniMax for home. Tried the BGE on one long trip but too heavy for convenience, and the ceramic possibly too fragile for extended travel. Probably a great weekender though.

I have a Kingsford charcoal grill that looks like a small BBQ pit and prefer hardwood charcoal. I also have an oiless turkey fryer that runs on LP. (Supposedly cooks other things too. It was a gift from my daughter and son-in-law, and I haven't had an opportunity to use it yet.) My outside arsenal also includes a large cast-iron skillet and antique dutch oven. I wanted to keep my cooking options open depending on my mood or weather conditions.

Besides the new fancy stove with oven I have my eye on, I have a 3" deep electric skillet which is deep enough for frying and a Cuisinart multi-cooker in the 7 qt. size.
Our old 2-burner camp stove is likely to come too. Though I might just get the Coleman 2-burner stove with oven at some point. It has a battery-operated electronic ignitition which will make it much safer to operate.
