Just bought the Camp Chef system. Looks awesome. Saw it being used at a Airstream rally in AR. Can't wait to try it out. Many accessories available including a pizza oven.

Love, love, love my Weber Q. Many satisfied neighbors have enjoyed my flat-iron steaks a la Weber Q, and the brats are really yummy. One of my happiest purchases ever.

GRill we use

Ideally would work with small propane bottles as well as charcoal. Thanks.
We use the Weber Q1200- it works great and is easily portable not too heavy and easy to keep clean and very well made. It uses the small bottles of propane but there is an option connection that lets you connect to a large propane tank if you want to. You can get the stand which is optional or use your own table and I just saw it comes in great colors to coordinate with your awning if you want.

FYI the Coleman Road Trip XLE grill is on sale at Amazon for $150. I like the looks of the wheels and handle for transporting.

This little Weber charcoal grill works for the less-is-more folks with smaller coaches like our FC20.

This folding grill looks interesting:

I've been using the portable volcano grill and have been pleased.

Thats the one we use. I prefer cooking on charcoal. It just barely fits in the outside storage compartment on our 310 Classic MoHo. It takes a little getting use to but it gets the job done. Not much room on the grilling surface so indirect cooking is a challenge.

Nothing like a quality steak grilled over charcoal!

One great thing about RVing is the abundance of local delicacies all over this amazing country. We came through New Orleans in the 90's and got some very local Boudin Sausage, just freshly made. I did not cook it correctly, and it ended up exploding (gently though) into lots of little pieces which fortunately were large enough to stay on top of the grill. Like Boudin Tenders -- delicious. Subsequently I was careful to steam them first, well-pierced to let the steam (from rice inside) escape gently, then just brown them on the grill over a bed of coals starting to die down.

Delicious, once again!

PS -- the grill back then was Weber's cousin to the small grill linked here, the smallest round charcoal grill they make I believe.

I recently picked up a Volcano grill after seeing my neighbors at Alumalina. This thing is very impressive. So far I have grilled and used a Dutch oven several times using charcoal. I have not had the opportunity to try it using gas.

Did you get the reversible grill/griddle? We use that most of the time and a close second is the dutch oven. We really like ours.

Not so far. I have an old 12 inch flat Lodge griddle that I use inside and on the grill. Many a cowboy/Boy Scout breakfast, pizza, bread and steak has been cooked on it over the years.

AboutFood just posted their Top 10 Portable Gas Grills review. It mentions a number of BBQ's that have been referenced in this blog. Missing a few but a good start ...

The Weber 2200, which I have is understandably well rated.

They go on to point out the weight (42 lbs.) as a negative. Without the grates, the grill is considerably lighter.

I solve that problem by carrying the grates in their own container and that gives me reason to clean them frequently.

I'm sure this is stretching the definition of "portable" but this is what we now travel with... You haven't grilled until you use one of here babies!
BTW, it is a Big Green MiniMax!

Nothing tastes better than a chunk of meat or fish done over an open fire, wood or charcoal. Several years ago, I had a bad/good or good/bad experience. There was a NO fire ban, that included charcoal and it started to rain. The Joe's, Volcano's and such were banned. This was in Illinois, who would guess?
The moral is that I was glad I had my Baby Q propane and could fix dinner.
