I've heard that said many times, but it's never seemed especially difficult to me. I've never watched anyone else trying to clean theirs, so I wonder what I'm doing differently?

I too am looking for a small gas grill. I am not interested in a charcoal grill because I will just cook over the fire with real wood if I want real barbecued mammal flesh. There are times when a fire is not in the cards. The Weber Q1000 looks pretty good. I don't see the point of getting the ones with the ears on the side because it will be used on a picnic table. Another issue is where to I put the thing while traveling. The Excursion is getting too small. I just hate these little SUV's.

We hauled around a small charcoal grill for a couple of years and never used it. It was jettisoned when we traded trailers.
I just use the fire pit or barbecue grill at the park.
I think it is funny when people set up their portable grill they brought with them right on top of the park grill.
If we are in a private park with no fire pits or barbecue grills we use an electric griddle outside.

We put the Weber Q120 in the truck with it's collapsing stand along with a 20 pound gas tank. That gives us the grilling cooking option regardless of our location.

I have cooked on gas Weber grills for over 40 years and like the instant on and off capability gas offers.

Perry, that has too small BTU. I have one and the Weber Q1000 is far superior. No, I don't have the Weber but will. There was a group of us and I started cooking first, but my grill wasn't hot and those with the Weber were almost done. I was cooking pancakes and the others were doing the bacon.

Turned out great - evenly cooked - was pleased so far...my old gas grill at home was bad about really fierce flame ups - this was very little - just brief ones when flipping that last for just a moment then never after

I've started using a CADAC Safari Chef portable grill, and really like it.
Safari Chef

It's very versatile, and even includes a wok (the lid)! Packs up tight in a travel bag. I've done a high-temp sear for blackened fish, a slow BBQ for thick lamb chops, and a fast grill for chorizo sausages. All in the same meal!

Here in S. Florida, it's crucial to keep as much heat as possible out of the trailer, so this system lets me do all of my cooking outdoors.

Ok, the Weber Q1000 just gave me sticker shock. Why was I expecting a portable gas grill to be less than $100?

For a smaller size the Weber Q200 gas grill , we've done very well with it. Owned it about 4 years. Aluminum top and bottom, cast iron grate. My preference is always a wood fire but sometimes convenience wins, the Q does the job. It was good enough that they gave me a Q120 for my birthday last summer just for the AS. It looks like they have even made (newer models) them better with the higher domed lid.

Doug how long have you used this grill setup and how do you like how it works?

I do not have the Weber Q (yet), but my home gas grill is a ten year old Weber gas grill. You cannot beat Weber for durability and customer service. Parts are readily available. I think you will find that the higher initial cost for the Weber will be offset by the above factors.

I've only been using it for a few months, but so far, so good. Can be a little rough to clean (I'm going to try some aluminum foil next time), and only good for a couple-few people. The legs on it prevent the surface underneath from heating up, I've used it on the plastic liner of my tailgate.

Though I kinda prefer my 5 burner BBQ, 100KBTU wok station and electric smoker that I have set up at home!

I just picked up a Weber Q100 that was on sale at my local Ace Hardware. I looked on Amazon and it looks like this model is being discontinued. I liked the idea of this model because it does not have wing tables. I always grill on an outdoor cooking table and thought the wings would get in the way. I hope I am right! I am looking forward to trying it out on my first outing!

Short, I have the 100 and use a Cabelas folding table. The grill has been perfect for the two of us and I've done meals for six. I use a small griddle that conveniently hangs off the table for eggs and pancakes. You will enjoy it.

The Q1000 is just the newer version of the Q100.

I feel a little dirty - after our last camping trip I did decide that I needed a gas cooking appliance after all. Not so much for grilling, but for eggs and pancakes in the morning. I love my charcoal, but with the kids, it just takes too long to develop usable, adjustable heat.

After much research I went out today and picked up a Magma Marine Grill with the skillet insert. Tried it this afternoon in the backyard with some simple asparagus with olive oil and I am impressed. Very even heat, a breeze to clean.

And the stainless steel goes well with the Airstream.
