Hood River, OR is where we summer every year. The fresh produce here is fantastic, from cherries earlier in summer to great leaches being jut two favorites. Riggkeman's Fruit Stand, 2 miles off Hwy 14 in White Salmin, WA has the best fresh fruit, as well as fresh baked quick frozen fruit pies you can bake in the oven direct from freezer.

For fresh pies, it's a toss up between Apple Valley Farms in the Fruit Loop, and Bette's Restaurant in downtown Hood River.

The one of a kind Mike's Ice Cream parlor has some of the best of the cold stuff, ever, too!

I'm almost starting to think that it's even more important to ask about the good desert places along a route than the difficult passes, beautiful views, and great RV Parks. The Hood River area was quite beautiful. A great desert stop would have made the visit soooo much better. Next time for sure. Thanks. Pat

best regional iconic dessert : cherry ice cream at the University of Wisconsin- Madison Union.
not iconic, but Kate Weiser Chocolates in Dallas( not far off I -30 and I-35 east, in Trinity Groves) does some desserts ( sundae type concoctions which require too many words to describe) which rank right up there in my list of 5 best things ever eaten EVER!

In Wisconsin: hands down, The Sour Cream Raspberry pie at any of the Norske Nook's around the state.

Great! Now you got me drooling, and I moved 2000 miles away from that "crack on a plate".

In Abilene Kansas, there is a Russel Stover store that has factory flaws for the low budget and an excellent assortment of their first line candy if that is your pleasure. It's a nice stop and located on the South side of I70.

1993 Caramel drive. PS - ice cream there too. Pat

If your travels take you to Montreal you have to eat the chocolate babka from Hof Kelsten.

Key Lime Pie tip. If you see a green Key Lime Pie it had food coloring added to it. if they resorted to green die odds are they did not us real Key Limes either.

I recall that in the Florida Keys one could buy a slice of frozen key lime pie, dipped in chocolate, and on a stick.

Also, the Tillamook Factory in Oregon offers a bountiful array of their ice cream, to be scooped into cones or cups and consumed with great delight.

Their portions are beyond generous, tho, so save your appetite for this.

Flour bakery in Boston makes a Boston cream pie that I like better then the one from Omni hotel where it was first made. If you can not drive to Boston here is a link to the recipe. I made it myself a few times, not too difficult but it takes a long time. The result is worth the effort.

My daughter sent me this photo of one of the pies she purchased at Capitol Reef Natl Park. She gave it good reviews.

I second the fruit in Hood River, especially the peaches. Also, a little known orchard jewel is Kimberly, Oregon. Their cherries are top notch.

Any iconic Oregon dessert has to include a minimum of one of the following:

Hazelnuts
Coffee
Marion Berries
Blue Berries
Strawberries
Huckleberries
Blackberries
Cherries

The dessert can be pie, ice cream, cobbler, cake, tart, beer , but it will have one, or multiple, of the above.

The Marionberry is the most unique to Oregon because it is a blackberry hybred cultivator developed at Oregon State. It is a sweeter and less tart blackberry with a lighter color purple and a lot nicer to pick because of less thorns. It is the "Cabernet of Blackberries." It has been proposed as the state berry since 2009, but has been blocked by rival berry producers.

To cover all the bases in Oregon ingredients, I recommend the Tillamook Diary in Tillamook, Oregon, where all of the above are found in one, or multiple, ice creams; most of which are titled with "Oregon ..." A few years back, they had the "Oregon 150" (statehood) for a short time. It was honey base icecream with hazelnuts and huckleberry drizzle Mmmm!

https://www.tillamook.com/products/ice-cream.html

Oh and they have plenty of room to park an Airstream, that is if I haven't taken the last spot in the usually full parking lot It is one of the few crowded tourist stops that many Oregonians are willing to brave. In contrast, you won't see me in a line waiting for a Voodoo Doughnut, nor racing for a plane with a pink box (Voodoo again).

To be fair, Umpqua Ice Cream, several other smaller brands, and craft handmade ice creams are available all over the state with a huge variety of the above ingredients.

OK We have all been wanting to say it. The best dessert in any region is the one you make when camping.

In Cincinnati, Graeters or Aglamesis ice creams are the best. My favorite is Graeter's mocha chip. The bittersweet chips are mucho humongo.

Speaking of Publix key lime pie: whenever we're at Topsail that's where we go for it. It's even better than the pie at the big restaurants: e.g. Red Bar.
