When someone says to me, "You're crazy! I can't beleive you paid that much for a trailer!"
I reply, "Maybe so." while thinking, "You're crazy for buying a new car every 2 years and eating out all the time and driving your kid to school instead of putting him on the bus, etc." It is OK to pay that much for a trailer if you will use it. I have many friends with $60,000 fifth wheels or $2500 pop-ups that have not been used in years. We actually use our trailer very often.

The reflection of the camp fire on the trailer is hypnotizing and mesmerizing...

When you stop by the dealership where you purchased your previous square trailer to buy some little accessory the employee asks, "Is that you in that Airstream?" and you answer back, "Yup." and are beaming inside with pride and joy in your new shiny silver baby. After all their poor quality trailers and bad service drove me to purchase an Airstream. I wanted one before but had to try the other way first to justify the expense of an Airstream.
When the dealer, finance guy, salesman, general manager, part counter guy, and service technician at the Airstream dealer do not personally own an Airstream and covet mine saying, "When I get another trailer I'm gonna get a 25' Eddie Bauer." and I respond, "What are you waiting for?"

This actually happened on our last Bambi trip through our border crossing from BC to northern Idaho.

The horticultural agents were at the US customs station that day, so we had to pull over for them inspect us. Two big guys in full border patrol regalia looked inside the Bambi and started asking questions like, "I bet this tows really well." "How much does it weigh?" After ignoring our meagre cupboard of food staples and empty fridge, they continued to look around while we gave them a tour.

"Yeah, it sleeps four in a pinch. Here's the bathroom."

"That's really nice." Etc.

You know you're an extreme Airstream owner when you happily give U.S. border patrol agents a tour... and you all know they aren't there looking for contraband oranges. They never did look inside our truck.

Did they find the Canadian border jumpers hiding in the tanks, and between the bellypan and fame?

No, they got through OK.

Actually we once had another US border guard looking for illegal immigrants inside the Bambi. Apparently she mostly wanted to make sure they weren't snoozed out on the bed, as she didn't look inside the bathroom or the closet.

We sometimes suspect the customs officers mostly want a look-see inside.

When you are wearing an Airstream tie and someone says, "Look. His tie has campers on it." and my reply is, "Not just any camper..."

When you don't look at the sunset, but you look at the reflection of the sunset on your trailer or...
When after a drive through the whole campground full of Cass A motorhomes and fifth wheels and long, long trailers with slides your favorite rigs are a vintage Airstream and a Silver Streak.

You might be an extreme Airstream owner if you watch a movie because it "stars" an Airstream trailer. This morning a watched part of "A Bird of the Air" just because the loner lives in an Airstream...
