Dennis & Susan

Airstream carving

Banks

That would be correct right! Thank you.

Technically, no, unless there is only one Sneed. Then the sign should simply read "Sneed" or "Sneed's Airstream."

You are right. But why the detachment of the surname from your first names?
In the editorial world, we call one word, name, or sentence standing alone a "widow." We are urged to correct this.

I missed that - the last name isn't Sneed? I assumed it was (the sign maker wouldn't put an apostrophe there otherwise). I also assumed the sign maker mistakenly pluralized by making the name possessive - however - if we assumed the Sneed family was claiming the space where they plant their sign - then, The Sneed's could indeed be correct for that purpose.

If my assumptions are faulty, so is the rest of my attempt at a saving grace here 😔

Either way - it's a lovely piece of art!

Sbb, I love to help people who are genuinely interested in learning and have pride in whatever it is they are presenting.

If space is an issue, how passionate are you about displaying your full names? Would D & S Banks work? Or, how about leaving it at "The Banks"?

I find the name "Eirestream" delightful - along with its Irish connection.
People will ask, what does that mean?

If it were my sign, I'd make "Eirestream" or "The Eirestream" and the carving the largest, most prominent feature of your sign.

And....may the road rise up to meet you.......

I love the lil Shepherd style hook idea. Also it can sit on top of the Propane box if you make a leaning style stand for it.

Actually - now arguing with myself - if Sneed - the plural Sneeds would be made possessive as Sneeds'....

If my wife and I shared the last name Mac - we could say:

The Macs (meaning there are at least 2 people here with the name of Mac).

The Macs' (meaning, at least 2 people named Mac own something here - whether the location where our sign was planted, or our Tin Goat trailer...).

If our name was Macs - it would be pluralized the way we talk about keeping up with the Joneses (keeping up with the Macses). I would assume the plural possessive there would be Macses' though I'd be tempted to use The Macs'.

I still say the sign is beautiful dagnabbit! 😀

I Stand Corrected

Fly,
Not sure why I didn't catch the error myself, being a spelling nut. I guess I was too excited about finding someone that made such a beautiful sign.
As we leave in 1 week for AZ, CO & UT, I don't think it will get corrected before this trip. Funny how a simple apostrophe truly changes everything.

I still am in awe of how much detail went into the sign. Everything from the Zip Dee awning to the skylight is there. Even the rims on the tires are correct.
Maybe we can do it again with my new rims, and put the apostrophe at the end of our name like it should be. Gonna go find a new photo of Eloise with her new rims now. This doesn't distract from my endorsement of their work. I'm sure Kathy will make this right. She is a very nice person to do business with. Heck, maybe I will get her to throw in a little stream of water under the trees. Being boat nuts, it would be fitting. Or maybe an outline of the state of NC somewhere. Just need to get the new building blocks together.

Ah, punctuation and grammar in signs, a never ending source of enjoyment!

A local contractor had a sign that said "No job to small". I always thought that meant he either wouldn't go to work or he'd do a small job. Send those medium and large jobs to someone else.

And let's not start on the supermarket checkout line for "Ten items or less".

Hi Fish,

So good to read your reply. I was worried that I might have embarrassed you.

It's easy to overlook a mistake like this. As those linked articles state, it is one of the most common errors in writing.

It is a beautiful sign, and that's why the mistake bothered me so much. Kathy et al put in so much work.

It's good that you will eventually get the sign corrected. Even though you are delighted with the craftsmanship, you paid money for this service, and deserve to have your name spelled correctly.

Anyway, enjoy your sign, your upcoming trip, and hope you catch plenty of fish!

p.s.
I've found something to occupy my time at RV parks/campsites: Misspelled sign patrol. I will make note of them, wait until the happy campers are relaxed and truly enjoying themselves, then bring it to their full attention.

Thank-you all. This has made my RV'g year!
