All of those reasons mentioned above...plus sleeping surface! Twin gives you 34" per bed, or 78" total vs queen at 70". The storage is important also, both inside and outside. You get 2 more exterior storage lockers with the twins. Inside, storage access under the beds is accessible easily, when your partner is sleeping; queen, you can't access easily, if someone is laying on the bed!

Looking at Airstream's website, I noticed it said twin beds are now 80" long for 2018 models. Anyone know if this includes all models, or just the ones that previously had an open space at the end of the bed (ie 27fb, 30fb, etc.)?

I did not see this on the AS website; where did you see it offered and was it an option now? The 25 Twin models I have owned (2014 and 2008) the Twins were pretty much bulkhead to bulkhead. The 26' thru 30 model twins, have some space (maybe 6"-8")at the foot of the bed which is nice for storage. Could be they are now including the longer 80" mattress with the twins on those models? I know our 2017, 28' has about 6" space at the foot of each twin, which I use to store portable solar suite case and my Bose speaker. Wife uses her side to store shoes, shoes, and more shoes! It is handy to have any extra space in the AS!

I simply googled "what's new for 2018 airstream flying cloud" and it took me to a page on their site dated 6/16/17 which said twin beds are now 80" long. It did not say which models, but I agree it would appear on the 25' trailers that something would have to moved to squeeze in the extra 2".

Twins for the win

Twins for the win

In our 31 foot 1985 model, we have twins with the feet oriented toward the curvy part. Plenty of room for intimacy when appropriate, yet on sometimes sticky summer nights having one’s own space is where it’s at.

So, I agree with all the pro-twin comments above. Additionally, if we have friends aboard it is great to have the guys in the back with a short folding table between so we can sit on the twins couch-like, so to speak, for backgammon chess etc. The rest of the crew can stay upfront and do their own thing. This isn’t quite as practical with a queen.

There are so many advantages to the twin layout, that I am led to believe that the queen configuration SELLS Airstreams but if people really tried them out first they would go for twins 90% of the time.

Our 30" AS with Slide was purchased to add to the marriage. It does just that. With center queen, with pillow-top mattress, first the wife loves it.
Second, it is just the right height for all things consummation.
I catch myself planning weekend excursions just to liven things up.
Then there is our rule, that each state gets it proper christening. Each park, the events. EACH. The memories far out-weight sitting around outside watching a fire, or something else. She thinks the Airstream is a turn on.

Boon-docking is our next adventure, because the queen bed set up can be a little noisy for some RV parks.

I have the sideways queen. I never considered the twin.
In the 26, the queen has more room from the door to the bed than a 25 that looks similar, so the extra floor space is good.
However, the queen's access to the overhead cabinets is terrible.
The twin has more floor space for dressing, and moving around and the cabinets are all usable.
The big plus for the twins is the two additional outside storage compartments.

If I had to do it over would I get the queen again? I really don't know, I might have to try the twins out more.

Has anyone had any experience with having the factory do a queen-to-twin conversion? I was once quoted a very rough estimate of $8,000 by JC.

My only experience is just what you did - I got a quote and decided it was too much. Doing the conversion myself and not counting my time, I probably spent less than $2,000 including new mattresses.

Not sure I would have done it for $8,000 - that's almost in the range to make trading trailers worthwhile.

If the “conversion” is removing the queen and making two platforms for twin beds that is quite a bit if money.

Be sure you fully understand what JC, or somebody else for that matter, will do to complete the job. Will they be installing the center nightstand? Will they add the two additional exterior access doors under the twin beds? Will they modify/replace flooring as needed? Does it include new mattresses? Lots to consider.

I met an Air Streamer in Bend Oregon that has come up with a solution to the twin bed issue. He has twin beds, but can quickly place a bridge board between the two and convert the bed into a "queen" per se. As for the gap goes, he uses a twin, inflatable mattress.

Has anyone else done this and if so, can you send photos? We are considering upgrading to a 25' Flying Cloud, but struggling with the bed issue.

Thanks!

We got twins in our new 2018 Interstate for ALL the reasons stated here in this thread. We are happy with our choice!
