Pretty funny, but I guess to be expected: I'm from the San Francisco bay area, but it said Wisconsin or Illinois. My dad was from Wisconsin and my mom was from Illinois, Evanston, but many previous generations in the south, Shawneetown, IL. (Shout out to Overlander in Anna, IL) People always tell me I sound like a Californian.

Inland North...You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop

Chicago! Bingo. I'm impressed.

Well, interesting quiz, but couldn't be more wrong in my case. Said I am "Inland North," but was born in Arkansas of native Arkansans and raised in Miami, FL. I called my father "Pop," not a carbonated drink. Phooey!!

Said I was from the Midlands, I'm another Californian. Thing is, the way you can tell most Californians is by the speed they speak, plus we tend to clip off the ends of our words, otherwise we do sound Midlands.

On the other hand, I was an actress, and we always worked to get a Midlands accent, as that was the closest to an American not having an accent that you can get, soooo...

Pretty good. I suspect with another page or two of questions they'd get your county too. Years ago I was in Wichita, talking to a bit salesman in Texas on the phone about a MBA project in NZ. In a few minutes of talking he nailed where I was from within 3 hours drive, totally different states.

Interesting. My dad was from Evanston and I was wondering if his, by my way of thinking, strange ways of talking had rubbed off on me.

Since my quiz came out "The West," I guess not. I guess I got my mom's and my native California accent. I can think of a few accent subdivisions for that big chunk of territory, though.

Mrs.Mod,

Hope it's a pleasant rub. I'll bet he still complains about the Pizza & Wings out there though.

It told me I have a voice for radio, too. Luckily, it couldn't see me, or it would have told me I have a face for radio, as well.

Survey said Midlands. Real life says small-town Louisiana, northern Maine, southwest Oklahoma, northeast Oklahoma, then big-city Louisiana.

No matter where I go, people say, "You're not from here, are you?" Including the city I've lived in for the last 31 years. So, I guess that means I'm not from anywhere.

Just point to the airstream and say "I've been everywhere, man!"
Bonus points if you can sing it like Johnny Cash!
