What's up with RV Lifestyles Magazine!?

Okay Canadians & others in the USA who subscribe to Canada's RV Lifestyles magazine - what is up with them!!??

I've subscribed for a couple of years now - primarily to get Andy Thompson's "Hitch Hints" articles - & have yet to get my issues without calling (which they don't answer nor call back) & emailing several times!

I mean really - they only publish 7 issues a year & I don't seem to get anything from them until they deign to answer an email with yet another new person in the subscriptions chair, and then nothing!

The last issue I have for this year by this special "catchup" mail-out is 47-1 to 47-3 I think.

Is this their normal way of doing business up in Canada!?

Because I can just view their back issues online for FREE a few months later!

Any Feedback from other subscribers?

TIA,
Tom

Andy T's Hitch articles are also published in Airstream Life so there is you plan "b".

Print media is going belly up.

I expect that the publisher is struggling to even keep his head above water.

Such is our modern age.

Print media is struggling, but that's no excuse for bad customer service.

Is the magazine associated with CanAm RV in London, Ontario?

I ask because we just had an iffy customer service experience with them.

Wondering whether I should post about it here, elsewhere, or at all.

You can certainly post whatever you like. Can-Am does enjoy an excellent reputation and your story will be scrutinized.

I would start a new thread, though, and not hijack this one.

Good to know, but free online is better!

It seems like RV Lifestyles gets way behind on publication of each issue every year, then sends them out late - if their customer service rep has been honest about when they go out in my past communications.

I see no reason for me to continue spending $30.00 per year for a not delivered subscription!

You'd think someone from there would answer on here, but then they also publish some poker & another power boating magazine under their Taylor Publications moniker, so maybe they pay more attention to those?

Or maybe they're just going out of business as some here have suggested!?

FastEddie - as far as I know CanAm is not connected to them, other than Andy T writing a regular article for them.

I'd suggest that you call for Andy directly to resolve your service issue/problem with CanAm.

Thanx Road Ruler - I have that link bookmarked, & another to get to the back issues, plus CanAm has a page with all the Hitch Hints archived articles linking to RV Lifestyles.

So there are multiple ways to get to the free content online, as well as the AS magazine noted above.

So Road Ruler, Fly at Night, Aage & any other Canucks & Red-Green fans up north - are you having the same problems with late & non-delivery of your magazines on the Canada side of the border?

Tom, I subscribed to the mag for many years (same as you to review the Hitch Hints articles) but haven't had the subscription for a few years now. Sorry I can't help.

Thanks to all.

Andy at CanAm was instrumental in helping me choose a weight distribution hitch and sway control for our Ford Flex towing a CampLite trailer. Very patient with me on the phone over several calls - since I knew nothing about the topic.

And he further advised me on the right way to reinforce the Flex's receiver, since my actual tongue weight ended up well in excess of what CampLite advertised and also in excess of Ford's published limits. I was impressed enough that we combined a planned trip to Indiana with a trip to CanAm to have them do the work. That was this past Tuesday.

Everyone at CanAm was friendly and forthcoming. The job looks professionally done* and was reasonably priced. There was and is no "customer dispute" to air. I would use them again in the future.

And they have a very cool front desk!

If its considered bad form to even mention the "iffy" part, I will refrain.

Sorry if my prior post left an impression that I did not mean to leave.

*I'll post before and after photos in a more appropriate place.

FastEddie -

I'd think that if it's presented as a cautionary tale & how you resolved it with them, then I'd think that it should be acceptable subject matter on here -

..... but it should be posted as a new topic under the hitches & towing (?name?) sub-forum, cuz it would just be buried here.

The advantage to a new topic in the proper forum is that it would serve to advise others on here.

BTW - I may be entertaining a dang long drive up to CanAm from SoCal if/when we locate our TBD TV - potentially a 2002-10 Porsche Cayenne S (V8),which also needs their hitch reinforcement magic. Not sure if I'd tow our vintage 1960 Avion T20 to them for the whole 9-yards from here, but I have a conference in Toronto in Oct. `15, so it would be great if that worked out to combine them!

So please PM or email to me with what your iffy part was, for my future reference.

Back on topic - RV Lifestyles Subscriptions....

Ok, so what I'm trying to figure out here is:

1.) Whether there is a wider problem with RV Lifestyles getting their issues out to subscribers?

2.) If so, is this only to USA subscribers, or also to Canadians?

3.) Or alternatively, do only I have a delivery problem between either the Canadian &/or USPS Post?

Back in May/June I'd contacted their then new subscriptions customer service person, who mailed the back issues missing to that point & changed my subscription # & a "free" 1 yr. extension for the hassles.

That was good, but I've received nothing else since then, and she doesn't answer the emails now, and someone else in their accounting dept. sent an email that didn't say whether they've sent me anything & to call their 800 # if any questions - which they don't answer & their mailboxes are all full.

So I'm trying to figure out if I've got the delivery problem on my end (although all my other dozen or so subscriptions seem to get here),

.... or if they're just not a going concern & close to shuttering??

Any other RV Lifestyles Magazine subscribers out there with similar non-delivery problems??

Well after 2+ years of getting ZERO magazines & another 2+/- years before that of having to ask to have them mailed to get anything.....

RV Lifestyle had the nerve to send me not 1 but 2 renewal requests - one for the original subscription account & the other for the account which their sales/subscription manager set up to supposedly solve the problem & give me a year of trouble free subscription gratis - which netting ONE issue sent - by special envelope, never in the regular subscription.

They did manage to mail out one issue a couple of months ago out of the blue, I suspect to set the stage for the renewal.

RV Lifestyle - if you read this stuff, send me a year trouble free - EVERY issue in the mail & on time WITHOUT my having to call or email to get one sent out special - then maybe I'd consider re-subscribing!! ....& answer your dang phones or call back on messages left!

But why!? ...I can read Andy's "Hitch Hints" for free online, even if a bit late, but still before I'd get your stupid magazine!

OK - I'm done venting at those idiots!

Never heard of them. Are you sure they are for real or still in business?

Yes they are, but with that type of crappy customer service & lack of subscription mailings - probably not for long!

Hitch Hints - RV Lifestyle Magazine

Their magazine is basically similar to our USA's Trailer Life by Good Sam, but they have a regular article every issue by hitch & towing & smaller TV guru CanAm's Andy Thompson from Ontario CAN (see at link above).

Cheers!

Someone asked if Andy had ties to the magazine. I have known Andy for close to 20 years. I am not aware of any relationship other than writing the articles. Whether you agree with Andy or not, his articles are well worth reading and absorbing.

I noticed that "Hitch Hints" has disapeared in the most recent copy I picked up from the show. I sort of imagined that the offices were ransacked by a bunch of pick up towing enthusiasts. However theres' a great article on "Minivan Towing" in the most recent Airstream Life.
