One reason I bought an Interstate instead of a trailer; my landlady allows me to store it at my apartment complex for free since it looks like a big passenger van and not like a "typical" RV.

I have a pull through steel building for the Airstream in Durango with 30 amp service and plenty of lights. When we're in San Diego, we keep a 24' Leisure van at Campland by the Bay in secure storage for $180 per month. It's walking distance from our apartment.

Location: Suburban San Antonio, TX
Type: 12 x 30ft fully enclosed shed w/ asphalt floor, gated, onsite security, unmetered electric.
Cost: $135.00/month
About a 10 mile drive

The Sport successfully hibernated there for four years while we were overseas. Though the owning corporation has steadily raised the rates about $4/year since 2008, between our neighborhood association rules and Texas weather, I can't see storing it anywhere else.

I often lunch near the storage yard. With the AC and shade in the summer and with the heat pump in winter, the Airstream is a great place for an after lunch nap for this old codger. It is super quiet there and the custom mattress or one of the recliners is more comfortable than anything at home. I often stop briefly to turn on the AC or heat pump on the way to lunch and the trailer is just right when I return for my nap. I also use the trailer to watch sports or other TV that I like while my wife has the big set at home tuned to her programs.

I have a 32 x 60 storage unit in MT that I rent for about $5,500 annually, paid in advance. It has 20amp electric outlets inside, and overhead fluorescent lighting. It has 2 separate 14x14 remote controlled entrance doors. Outside, there is both 30 and 50 amp electric, and water. In addition to my trailer, I keep a truck, boat, Polaris Ranger ATV, and an ATV trailer, plus other assorted toys in it. It is not insulated or heated, but I do stay in it a couple days or so each year while I'm working on minor repairs to my trailer, or doing other miscellaneous things, and if it is cold at night, I run a small electric space heater.

Most of the year our airstream is in a side drive at the house with 30A and water.

For 4 months in winter, it gets stored 425 miles away in the Phoenix area. This means we can drive down to AZ once a month to travel without any worries of icy roads and snow storms towing back and forth.

It's in a secure, covered, paved storage facility with electric, RV wash, water, air and dump for $125/mo. And much cheaper than building a storage barn a home.

My Storage

I have a hanger to store all my stuff. I wouldn't let my Caravel sit out in the PA winters"They All Leak". I pay just over $200 a month for this. It's worth every dollar to me.

Yep I have a few toys. The best part of having this place is I can hide my toys from my wife. She didn't know about my 73 Chevy van for over a year.

That is funny, since you're not my husband!! Otherwise, wouldn't be so funny!

That is so true! If you ask the answer will be "NO". So I learned not to ask. After 24 years of being married my wife knows my MO!

If that principal was not in play, we would not have a tow vehicle or a trailer- but she has never said no to a road trip...
