We did it! Flying Cloud 30 Owners. Airstream Dreams Realized!

Boy are we excited - our first Airstream. Retirement is close on the horizon.

We were at Alumapalooza 6 at the weekend and Tim Maxwell of Airstream helped us source what we were looking for. We are wanting to create a cosy and sociable 'saloon' along the lines of a sailboat (I'm a boat captain and met my wonderful wife sailing in the Adriatic). We liked the idea of the FC 26U prototype we saw at Jackson Center. We want to improve on the 26U and add an office and more kitchenette counter and storage using the dinette area. The FC30 with recliners seemed to be the easiest to adapt.

Woodland Travel Center in Grand Rapids MI had a Flying Cloud 30 with recliners. Chad was kind enough not to say we were crazy, and was in fact enthusiastic about what we are trying to do. Hopefully by Alumapalozza 7 we should have it finished. Watch this space!

Now for a truck.

Congratulations! We love our Flying Cloud 30 with recliners. We always had boats (only ski and wakeboard boats though) before getting our Airstream, so I can't wait to see what modifications you come up with.

Congratulations! We used to sail, but when I started booking tickets with Trawlerfest too look at boats my wife suggested we look at Airstreams and land travel. We're looking at the 25 and 27s now for a soon to be retirement. I really like the U-shaped dinette in the new 26. Must harken from the sailboat days, but I think they look more usable and comfortable. Best of luck with the new AS and with the TV search. Drop an message if you get into downtown. It'd be a pleasure to meet you.

Well, your dreams came true big time! You're going to have a very special Airstream. You made a wise choice in my view. Wishing you may happy traveling adventures in your retirement.

Maybe you saw one of the new "Land Yachts" Airstream made that is outfitted well, like a yacht. They are quite dramatic inside.

Their are lots of good tow vehicles out there. Considering the size and weight of your Airstream, a torquey diesel might make sense. We find our Super Duty reliable and comfortable towing our 86 34 footer. It has the power to merge onto the interstates, and power to climb steep grades for long distances like we find in Colorado. The other makes have very similar characteristics.

Congrats on your new Airstream. It has been a year since we got ours and we are still excited. Hope to retire in the next couple of years also.

Congrats to you Duncan. And another congrats on finding a 30' recliner model! In our view, the 30' recliner model is THE ticket, as well.

We were not able to find one, so we ordered a 2016 Intl Serenity 30' with the recliner "build" configuration, but we're going to put in our own recliners of choice. It is expected to arrive at our dealer by mid July.

With the 30' model, we opted to tow with a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali HD, which is a 3/4 ton Heavy Duty with Duramax Engine and Allison Transmission.

The Denali HD is very much like a Cadillac truck, with a very quiet diesel engine. We love the truck so much that it is our daily driver, as well, though we don't need to commute anywhere, so it's not actually driven "every" day. Not an inexpensive choice, but it is a joy to drive and is supremely well-suited to tow the 31' Airstream, along with an ample payload of goodies.

Please keep us posted on what you wind up going with!

Congratulations, very comfortable model. We liked that living room set up so well we put the recliners, console and folding table of the 30 into our FC 25RB.

New 30' Flying Cloud

Congrats... we have a 2010 and love it. We pull it with a 2014 F350, diesel. Had a 2008 F250,diesel and it was a great TV. However, I wanted to change to a crew cab and did so, last year... love the crew cab. Anyhow, the new F350 is as quite and smooth as my Cayenne, no joke. Just competed a 2800 mile trip from Portland, Or to Jackson, Wy. and back. MPG was 16.5 and the 6.7 engine pulls the FC like it's not behind you, a very secure feeling to have the control and extra power when you need it.
Enjoy the FC
