Watch your language

A recent thread involved the us of redn,,,,, and quee,, both of these terms are out of line here on the forums. In the town I live in calling someone any of these or a host of other insults is considered hate speech. Political correctness gone wild? Maybe, but it keeps things a lot more civil. The forum members can do a lot better by not tolerating this. What do you think. Oh I see the thread is gone, thank you mods. Jim

If you ever see name calling, people being rude, etc, just remember that our main, overriding policy is to 'be nice!' If you see posts or language that makes you uncomfortable, use the red triangle to report it so we can take a look. We do not have enough mods to read every thread, every day, so unless someone tells us, things may get missed.

This forum is for everybody, and we want all to feel comfortable and welcome here. That's certainly how I've felt at ever rally of Airstreamers I've ever been to in person, and this forum is our virtual campfire - it should feel the same!

...and now a thread with good information for new users is gone due to over sensitivity. Really?

I think some people post just for attention! Lighten up Francis.

Threads are not usually removed, just edited and closed if necessary. Unless we deem an entire thread to be against the rules from the start, we try to preserve all useful information for members.

The thread is not gone and we can assure you that there was no "over sensitivity." As Stef alluded we take the "Be Nice Rule" very seriously. It is all too easy to set behind a keyboard and with a high degree of anonymity be a bully or troll. Many forums fail their members and let things get out of hand; we are not one of those places.

Here is the thread link if you are having difficulty with the location.

I used the word "shi##y" to describe one of Airstream's construction methods. It got removed and I got a message for inappropriate language from a moderator. The next day I heard the same word during drive time on my FM radio. This forum is getting WAY to PC. And yes I know I can leave if I don't like it. Or just get banned. Just saying "LIGHTEN UP" moderators.

Scatological words are always inappropriate on a forum rated "G" for "all ages."

English is such a rich language, and we as intelligent Airstream owners are such an erudite bunch that we can bandy words like "pejorative" with impunity. Surely we can find more imaginative ways to express a concept than to stoop to the lowest common denominator by using expletives and vulgarity. Or by using words that categorize an entire segment of the population as somehow inferior to the rest of us.

Jeff Foxworthy tells us, "You might be a redneck if…" and we all laugh. He doesn't say, "Dude, you're such a stupid redneck that you even…" because that takes all the fun out of it. Context is everything.

Protagonist, thank you for the very well stated perspective.
