I learned a long time ago that you get what you pay for. I typically throw out the hose that the dealer gives you when you buy the trailer and buy a heavy duty branded hose. The difference in the materials make the hose much more resilient to ground debris and wear and tear. As far as length goes, longer is better. I have a 20' hose which serves me well. You can join hoses together if you wish. I know my dealer supplied me with a 10' hose.

Finally I think one of the best things I have bought is a hose support. Here's one. 15' Flexible Sewer Hose Support - Direcsource Ltd 48565 - Sewer Accessories - Camping World

The beauty of these supports are the fact that they keep the hose off the ground and they provide a great drain angle. Again make sure you get one long enough to support a hose.
These are especially good for those sewer connections that stick up above ground level.

It got good mostly good reviews on Amazon.

How does one find out whether one has Valterra or Thetford fittings? Our AS is a 1998 model with the dump valve on the side, not the back.

Thanks for your help again.

A tip to keep the hose setup properly,,,
We use the "cheap" hose... To get the proper "slope" get sections of rain gutter and block them up to establish a "grade/slope" from the AS waste outlet to the ground receptor. I then lay the hose in the gutter and "retain" with the long "twist" wire ties...so things stay in place when the water outrush from tanks occur.

We've always used a single 20 foot hose with no issues other than the odd time I have forgotten to check out the location of the sewer dump on the campsite before setting up .....

If you do get a couple of shorter pieces that will, on occasion, need hooking up together then there is quite an excellent tutorial on how to do this easily and effectively in the movie "RV" with Robin Williams .....

This is our 6th year with the same Sewer Solution, and 10' extension hose when we need it. Over a thousand nights in our Airstream(s).

Using the grey PVC viper hose from Valterra. I see it now comes with a clear plastic sewer elbow so you can monitor the overall chunkiness of your flush....

Sewer solution is nice as long as you have running water. What do you do when there isn't water available?

No running water--dump gray only in appropriate manner. Haven't filled black on a trip yet without a chance to dump.

I recently moved to the Rhino Extreme Sewer Hose because the connections are easier to unlock than the other brands I've used. They are just better engineered to lock and unlock smoother. Furthermore, in my experience, the connections are tight, no leaks. Rhino Extreme Sewer Hose by Camco Manufacturing is available at Camping World and Amazon.com.

Honestly no bashing, but I used a SS once. It took EPIC amounts of water and never did get my tank clean!
I do see its value for long runs into the sewer, but I'm not overly impressed.
