Ha! Prime example of the expression, "better to ask for forgiveness than permission".

I'll only add that given our new axle, spinning between new tires, adjacent to the new holding tanks, under the new floor, new cabinetry and new appliances, powered by new Worthington LP tanks, which happen to be polished like the new skin patches and dozens of rivets, and are topped off by the pair of new Fantastic Fans...

why don't I just let you peruse this stack of receipts from Vintage Trailer Supply. Because pal - far as I'm concerned, 85% of this trailer IS less than 10 years old.

I wouldn't want to stay at any park that didn't want my airstream.

Sofar I've never been asked by a park how old my trailer is, but the neighbours usually ask and are surprised it's as old as it is.

That's the answer,

I do not understand why people get their undies in a bunch when the owner of an RV park exercises their private property rights. How is this any less snobby than a park owner setting parameters?

Trailer age restrictions on campground season passes?

I have run into RV/Trailer age restrictions in a number of parks as I have traveled the US. Only once did I encounter a problem, and that was early in my experiences . . . 1996 to be specific, prior to any exterior restoration on my Overlander. The trailer was heavily oxidized and looked rather time-warn. The policy of the campground wasn't well-posted, and the clerk who handled my check-in made no mention of the age restriction. When checking-out the next morning, the park manager pulled me aside and asked about the age of my Airstream . . . and when I told him that it was 32 years old, his jaw dropped . . . then he said, "I am afraid that you were in violation of our park's RV age rule, but no one had any idea just how old your Airstream might be." He then went on to say, "Don't reveal the true age of your Airstream unless specifically asked as the RV age rule is to deny access to RVs that are poorly maintained and may pose a safety risk to other guests." I have followed that gentleman's advice ever since, and haven't had any problems even when asked about the age of my Airstream . . . particularly in the past ten years since the exterior was restored by P and S Trailer Service. I think that I encountered more "raised-eyebrows" in 2008 when I was towing my 1978 Argosy Minuet cross-country with my 1975 Cadillac Eldorado convertible . . . it was a toss-up whether it was the age of the tow vehicle or the trailer that attracted the attention . . . .

I suspect that in many circumstances that the park management of a park with RV age restriction may be convinced to offer a variance if approached with the idea of being permitted to inspect the Airstream for safety/maintenance concerns.

Is this a standard hurdle? Seems to me a well kept AS should be an asset to any campground, no matter the age. If this is true, we will either need to change the budget, or our plans.
The dynamics of seasonal sites have always been such that campground operators have to deal with the problem of older, deteriorating RVs. With the financial crises and widespread foreclosures, it's gotten worse.

Change "airstream" to "business" and see if it looks the same to you. What it sounds like to me is the parks telling me they don't want my business.

What annoys me about these 10-year rules is that it's a poor tool to accomplish what they want to accomplish, but they're too squeamish to just say "Your RV must be well-maintained both visually and mechanically" and turn away trashy equipment regardless of its age.

I feel this whole thing is a bit different situation with member owned RV parks too. If someone buys a site at that type of park or resort with the understanding that it will only be class A's over a certain size, they would have a legitimate complaint if the park started allowing some transient units in that were not within those specs.

I'm running into this with a few places in Michigan while making summer plans.

I stayed in a very low prestiege trailer park on the west side of Spokane WA. Not well kept ( un level dirt pull through spots) but fine for my purposes. The next year, I wanted to return, so I called to make a reservation. The lady on the phone asked what trailer I had. I said a 20 foot Airstream. She asked the age and I said proudly that it was a 65. She said that they don't allow trailers older than whatever the cutoff year was. I started to tell her that my trailer was restored and polished. She just hung up on me.

One time I stayed at the Pecan Grove RV park in downtown Austin. They put me close to the entrance so people driving by could see it.

Its interesting how there are such different attitudes. What a lame honor it is to be a trailer park snob! Haha

How about "I don't share personal information, but its less than 10 years old" if they ask...let them prove otherwise.

To paraphrase Groucho, I wouldn't want to stay in a park that would have a camper like me!
