Go to South Carolina Parks - South Carolina Parks Official Site this is how you researve your spot for any SC state park. Under find a park click the drop down and go to hunting island and click on it. there is a complete description of the park and a few pictures including the lighthouse.
After we are there in May I will post pictures.

Just returned from Baker Creek St Pk, and the price reflects the condition of it, wondered why it was so much cheaper than the other st pks. it is what you call primative and unsupplied. The park ranger works hard to meet everyones accomodations but does not recieve the support from the state that he should get. The sites are unlevel, tight, and small mostly for trailers under 30 feet, the sites and roads are dirt with rocks & roots sticking up. I found only 2 sites that would support my 34, and they was a pain to get into, another all the sites put the door facing the gravel road and it stays busy all day and most of the night and when people drive in and out you get dirt clouds all the time.
This park is good for SOB's under 30, but if you want to keep your AS looking nice I would not recomend this park until the state puts some money into it and if the state did this would be one fantastic park.

What Edisto Beach State Park were you in? Not the one we go to.

Their Beach Campground is just the other side of the dunes, and some campsites are up against the dunes so you can have a 24 hour view of the beach.

They have another campground up the road aways, that is on the marsh rather than the beach. Pretty, but nothing like the Beach Campground. Folks end up staying there frequently because they arrive without reservations/that's all that was available.

When we want to be on the beach, we prefer places like Edisto's Beach campground and dry camping on Padre Island, where you are all beach all the time.

Give it another try.

Yes, I agree. It is all about the personal experience. We have been places others love and thought "what the ----?", just didn't see what they saw.

February is a good time to go to Edisto Beach and get sites at the Beach Campground. It is cool in February, but perfect for campfires started with dry palmetto fronds and good for walking the beach to find beautiful shells washed up over the winter and not yet snapped up.

We were there several years back. It is very nice, as all Corp parks are. Most are waterfront, or at least waterview. S.C. has lots of nice parks on different lakes/ reservoirs across the state. Calhoun Falls SP just might be the crown jewel. Give it a look.
