Snow and cold

Seems like this winter up north has been really brutal. How are all of you coping? I hope this leads to a greater than normal camping season for you all! Jim

Last year was worse...as far as snowfall, but it has been pretty cold for an extended period of time this year. We cope like we always do. Deal with it and complain a lot.

I AM ready for spring though...but it'll be awhile.

We don't cope anymore. We rent a place in Florida for the winter. Next year we will take the AS out west and hide out in southern California/Arizona.

Just saw on the weather channel that Boston has had three feet plus of snow with another foot expected just this month alone.

We're on the South Shore of Boston and got 28" on Monday alone....and already had over 3ft on the ground from the two previous storms. The new storms are coming through about 4 days apart and most folks now are concentrating on getting by, then clearing up later. Nearest comparison I can make is the lake effect snow that dumps on Buffalo. We managed to dig out one car so my wife can get about, but my truck is buried in a 6-7ft drift and wont come out until spring.

As for the cold....I go to work by commuter boat and the sea has been frozen for the last couple of weeks. The have to send the ice breaker to clear a channel each trip...

Last year was worse for both snow and cold. This year is pretty typical when you average it all out. As for coping with it, Just put more wood in the wood stove. When we go out we layer the clothes and keep the coat zipped up , the gloves on and the head covered also good foot wear that keeps the wetness out and the feet dry. With working outside for forty years I learned a whole bunch about coping with all sorts of weather.

I am coping very nicely, thank you, as I am not there.

I am always happy when there is enough snow for the grands to play in.

Such an important and treasured activity in the Midwest.

Awesome

Coping just great here in beautiful Victoria, BC

Our one snowfall of the season happened at around 4 am about month and a half ago. Saw it when I got up to use the facilities in the middle of the night. The snow was pretty much was gone by the time I woke up in the morning near downtown Victoria. I've had to scrape frost from my cars windows maybe only 6 times this year

The Camelias have bloomed and dropped their flowers already, Daffodils are up and cherry blossoms are filling the trees. I think I'm gonna drag my toboggan down to View street to get some pictures in the cherry blossom snow petals

and I love breaking the stereotype of cold Canada

Well in Fairbanks we have had an unusually warm winter with low snowfall. That is up to a couple weeks ago when we started a two week spell of -30 to -45. Just in time for the Yukon Quest and several teams had to drop as they weren't ready for these cold temps.
Snowfall in the Alaska Range is low enough that trail conditions for the upcoming Iditarod that the start has been moved to Fairbanks. Only the second time that I can remember. We won't see the start as we will be on our way to Vegas for the NASCAR race.

La Paz, MX. Summer conditions here and that is why I winter here. I will be heading North next week to start the season of camping wherever I end up.

Yep...we are thru 100" of snow in two months, another 3-6" due tonight which will take the record as the snowiest winter since record began....

And the 7ft on the ground it was all too much for my shed! Luckily the snow was deeper than the walls so only the roof collapsed.

Winter wasn't so bad back when I had snowmobiles. But now that I have only summer toys, winter sucks!

I lived in Maine for many years. I do not miss working in or shoveling the snow at all.

We cope by coming to Florida for the winter.
A neighbor sent a photo yesterday, of our house in NC. It's all covered in snow.

I found your comments about the climate interesting so I googled "weather in BC". The article explained that there are great variations of climate in the province because it is so large. The climate in Victoria (I was there once and found it to be a very nice place) It would seem is similar to Seattle, Washington were my sister lives. Does Victoria get a lot rain and overcast days in the winter also? Wolf146
