RV Show

Attended the South Texas RV Supersale today (San Antonio). No Airstream dealers present but we already know what we want (25' twin). Amazed that you can get 4 other brands for the price of 1 Airstream. Yup, the fit & finish is not the same. Show was useful for hitch info and general RV education.

We went to the Tampa RV super show 1 1/2 years before we bought our Airstream. I had my heart set on a SOB brand new for $35K. I found Airstreams a while later. Those RV shows are great to see and compare and learn.

My wife and I walked around an rv show in Birmingham a few years back. We already had our Argosy and we're just killing time. When the salesman approached they quickly retreated when they found out we owned an Airstream. The square boxes quality was shoddy to say the least but to my surprise so we're the class a pushers. Went into a pusher with a 500000+ price tag to find a corner trim piece broke and hanging. The salesman, sitting in the driver seat of the coach, blamed the broken trim on "little hands". Use cheap materials and you get a poor excuse of a rig.

Unfortunately, both are true. We went to the Houston RV Show last year and were quite unhappy to see so many kids running free with NO adult supervision. Unfortunately, some of the "kids" were well past 21 and had consumed some "adult beverages" prior to visiting the coaches on display. Yes, there are some differences in quality, and generally you get what you pay for, although there were a few that looked like you weren't getting what they wanted you to pay for.

A large show is always a good way to get ideas about what will and won't work for you as far as floor plans. It is also a good way to get a rough idea of brand quality. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't want to buy a coach that has been at a show unless the dealer was willing to go through the coach, looking at EVERY little detail and fixing all the issues. Even then I'd expect there to be problems, just as there are with every new coach.

We were there yesterday too. Last year there were several Airstreams and more accessory vendors. At least it wasn't too crowded!

We like to attend RV shows at every opportunity. We do not do this with replacing our Airstream in mind. We enjoy seeing different RV's of all types. We like to see what is new in the way of RV accessories. We like the carnival atmosphere and rubbing elbows with other RV enthusiasts.

There's a boat and travel trailer show at the Austin Convention Center during the 3rd weekend of January.

If the average lifespan of a white box is 12 years, then your Airstream would have to last 48 yrs to make an accurate comparison. Anybody here got a '69 Airstream? Has the roof caved in yet?

Today at the RV show in Denver, CO. Windish had some 10 Airstreams in display and 60 SOBs. The entire show included hundreds of RVs. Of course 'we' stole the show
