RV parks in the Colorado Springs area

I have a 32' excella and I am looking for recommendations on a RV park near the Air Force Academy. I have a cousin that is graduating in May and would rather stay in the Airstream than a Motel. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thumbs up Colorado Springs RV Park

We have visited the area several times and alway return to PIKES PEAK RV PARK. They are located just West of downtown Colorado Springs and about 15 miles from the Academy. The couple that run the place live next door and are wonderful hosts.

Congratulations to the cousin!

There is also the Cheyenne Mountain State Park just south of downtown on hwy 115. Very nice.

Cheers

We stayed at the RV Park in the Academy grounds when my daughter was stationed there. Great place with lots of wildlife. Cheap too.

Why Not Stay in the Fam Camp?

The FamCamp at the Air Force Academy is very nice, and nothing could be more convenient.
See if your cousin can make reservations for you as his guest. I believe they allow relatives of graduating cadets stay there as guests.

We have stayed at Garden of the Gods Campground in Colorado Springs. It's centrally located for tourist activities, but a little down the road from the Air Force Academy. However, the Springs area isn't big, so the commute is only about 30 minutes on I-25.

We have stayed at Garden of the Gods campground, too.

Decent, but a parking lot.

Garden of the Gods RV Park is Close to...

.... well, it's close to Garden of the Gods.
We enjoyed a great Airstream Rally there in 2005 (I think), but the FamCamp is much nicer if they will let you stay there.
Hope this helps!

For all you vintage types, don't know if they changed policy but Garden of the Gods would not let any campers in the campground more than 10 or 15 years old. So if you have a pre 2002 just tell them it's a 2012 and they probably wouldn't know the difference anyway.

FAMCAMP is the way to go. Your cousin can make the reservation for you as a family member. Very nice.

If you have the time or as a last resort Mountaindale is a very nice park. But it is a ways away from the Academy so you would have to plan the time to travel.

Make your plans now as you can always adjust them. If I remember the KOA downtown was very busy, but it is centrally located.

Good luck and congrats on selection and graduation to your cousin. Not an easy accomplishment.
