RV one in Tampa did the right thing

well I guess the forum is a great place to air ones frustration. After posting mine on here yesterday about Tampa RV, I got a call from the sales manager who did everything possible to make me feel comfortable. They really did a nice job making up to me and today my wife and I became the proud owners of a 2015 Classic, 30. This is out first RV and we can't wait to get it become part of the AS community ! Lot's of learning ahead !

My compliments to the management at Tampa RV for doing the right thing.

Why the quotes on "right"?

Not sure what I was thinking. I guess the thought was that right is subjective. Although taking care of the customer is the right thing IMHO. Sorry for any confusion!

I linked the OP's original thread to this one so that anyone who finds that thread will know everything worked out ok in the end, despite his initial dissatisfaction.

Yes, there still may be hope

I'm glad the RV deal worked out and the OP was able to buy the RV of his dreams. Often, RV happiness comes down to the equipment that enables one to get out and enjoy fellowship with other RVers on the road.

This is a bit OBE. My tale involves dealing with Airstream of Los Angeles during Feb. and Mar. of this year in an attempt to purchase a used truck based RV on the lot. Over several emails and phone calls, I made to them a fair cash and RV trade offer. They didn't want the offer, but picked around on what could be trade allowance. At one point, I directly asked the two sales folks what would be the cash price that they would accept. Never gave me an answer to that question. I presumed that only the full asking price would do.

I told them to contact me when they had a number...but they have not.

Recently, I checked back on the website. That RV is still on the lot, with an asking price reduction of $10,600. They still haven't called, and after 6 months that RV is still theirs.

Is it possible that Airstream dealers have seminars at conventions on how to deal with us lowly RVers? Perhaps, the plan is to pass on a deal that isn't full price in hopes that an easier deal will come along.

Let's Roll ! Wolf

Gotta say, our Airstream dealer was quite transparent about whether we should trade in our B+ motor home as part of a deal to buy a new 27FB.

"Don't do that," is pretty much what he said.

He told us he would have to give us a terrible trade value because he wholesales whatever non-Airstream used stuff comes to him in trade. Said I would do better with a consignment sale via another dealer who handles other brands.

So we did, and we got far more $$$ than we would have gotten in a trade.

Once we sold the old rig, we renewed our discussion with the Airstream dealer and bought Rocinante. Smiles all around!

My experience is that all AS dealers give you low ball book value or loan value even on an AS and sell for way over the book value. It's almost way easier to deal with an individual sale than a dealer.

I strongly strongly recommend Colonial. Just don't ask them if your TV is the right one.
