Retiring march 20 2012.

No bills, no income except SS, whole new outlook on life. My wife works 4 days a month and I will get a part time job and we will be better off financially than before I retired. No mortgage and a small retirement paid off the AS and truck. Scared to death because this means more AS time--hope to see some of you on the road. Gonna be a big attitude adjustment here. Thanks for listening,, jim

Congrats!!!!!! I am right behind you by about 2 years. I understand the income part. I have decided to start something to make some extra income. The options vary. Good job with the retirement.

Yay!!! Good for you! Life is too wonderful and uncertain to hold back your dreams! I retired a year ago at 55. I bought an Airstream, rented out my house and haven't looked back since! I'm having the time of my life! Yes, I don't have a lot of money but I'd rather do with less and have more. More time with my kids, my family, my dreams.

So, congratulations Jim!! If you and your sweetheart come thru Oregon, please get in touch with me. I would love to meet you guys and hang out.

Take care and have fun!!

~Cari~

More AS time is not a reason to be scared. More DW time, THAT is a reason to be scared! I'm a single guy, but friends and coworkers who have retired often went back to work just because the extra hours of togetherness were so difficult to handle.

As for me, I'm first eligible to retire July 2013; I might be able to afford to retire not long after, with a bit of luck.

The key to tight retirement budgets, is to not spend money foolishly.
You now have more time to do all your own repairs and maintenance.
If you can repair something that is quality built, and serves your purpose for a few bucks, why buy something new that is probably lesser quality, and will cost you more in taxes and fees than it would have cost to repair your existing problem.

If we all continue to buy "offshore" new stuff, there will not even be any workers left in our home country to continue to pay our pensions.

Enjoy all that free time you think you will have, as you will soon find you are busier than ever.

Don't get TOO excited about all the 'free' time to do what you want. 5 1/2 years now for me at it didn't take long before I realized HOW THE HECK I EVER HAD THE TIME FOR A JOB........for 50 years!

ENJOY.....ENJOY.

Congratulations on the new page you are turning, Jim. I find that I love retirement, am in my 4th year.

Just curious though, how did you manage to have no bills? We still have to buy groceries and pay gas and electricity etc.

Let us in on the secret?

It's a wonderful life!

I retired on November 2nd of last year and it is everything I hoped it would be and more.

We had a wonderful retirement party/rally and then spent 2 weeks in Hawaii. 5 rallies and 4500 miles (towing) later we are still making plans for the rest of this year.
