Recliners can be added in which models?

My wife and I have been looking at Airstreams for a while and plan to buy one when life slows down a bit. We like the idea of recliners in our future Airstream. I have read as many posts as I can find about recliners and here is what I think I know:

From the factory you can get recliners on:
  • Flying Cloud 30'
  • International 30'
Or you can do a modification afterward on:
  • 25' Flying Cloud or International Rear Bedroom (possible on front bedroom but the furnace might impact the fold out table)
  • 28' Flying Cloud or International (is there enough room for the fold out table?)
  • 30' Flying Cloud, International or Classic
Is the above correct?

PS - Thanks to Doug Kottam for his many posts on this subject.

I have often wondered what hoops one would have to jump through to put recliners in a Classic 30.
Seems the subwoofer for the stereo could be incorporated into a small cabinet in the middle.
The converter would have to be relocated to the center cabinet as well. As is, the converter is closer to the street side.
I don't plan on getting recliners as I enjoy sleeping on the couch, but I am curious.
I wish they would bring back the 34 footers and have a couch + recliner(s).

Completed the conversion of my stock "L Seat" sofa in my 2012 28' Intl CCD to recliners about a week ago. So, you can add the 28 to the mix.

The Eddie Bauer 25/27 looks like the easiest conversion. Take the benches out and put the recliners in, make a narrower pedestal table top.

The furnace sits farther forward in the Eddie Bauer's than the other 25/27's but it looks like they could be converted as well, with a narrow folding table between the recliners.

It is unfortunate Airstream does not simply offer this option in the mid-sized models. Probably because most want a trailer that has extra sleeping options, even though they may seldom be used. But there are many of us needing a comfortable "trailer-for-two", especially for extended travel.

And that's why we took our Airstream to Jackson Center for a factory appearing conversion. They did a great job, we couldn't be more pleased with the comfort. We regret the expense of scrapping the factory seating and buying replacements, but we have no choices in a mid-sized Airstream.

BAB, thanks for sharing the picture of your 28'. Looks great! Did you do the work yourself? Also, if you happen to have a picture that shows a better view of the side table and remaining seat, I would be interested to see that.

Doug, thanks for the info on the Eddie Bauer. I hadn't thought about that option.

I agree. I wish they would offer that extended-use trailer for two: two comfortable recliners, with end tables, facing a big flat screen TV, a nice shower/bathroom area, ample storage space, and an option of a queen bed or two twin beds. Add a robust solar panel option and 4 AGM batteries, and off we'd go. (I won't bother to request the fireplace offered in many serious RVs!) No flaming is necessary. I'm just dreaming!

It always seems when someone says it cannot be done, there is someone doing it that did not get the message.

Does anyone have any experience putting double recliners into a 2016 -28FC? The sofa just doesn't get it when trying to watch TV for the evening. To bad the sofa doesn't have a recliner feature to lift your legs up.

Recliners in 28FC

Thanks to Prostar for posting this picture of double recliners. Now I have an idea of how they look and see the possibilities.

Best furniture, changed out the jackknife couch for this double recliner. Ordered in leather, great color match for the ultraleather in the 30 ft Flying Cloud.

Sherrif...I just looked at a 2019 FC30rbt today at the dealer. I sat in the sofa for some time and realized even the new cushions are uncomfortable.
Did you disassemble the jackknife sofa on the 30' yourself, and if so how hard was it? Any components/wiring to deal with?
How difficult was it getting that recliner sofa through the door?

Ordered through? Manufacturer ?

How do you like it and have you “used” them for much time yet?

The jackknife sofa comes out easily, just few screws, nuts and bolts and it comes apart and out. We loved the new double recliner sofa. We ordered it from the local Ace hardware of all places. Best brand. The leather was a near perfect match to the ultraleather in our 2014. It is of the lazy boy style in that the backs are all removable. When we went to pick it up we just took the Airstream with us and had them load it right into its permanent location then put the backs on. I secured it to the floor with 2 lag bolts. We used it 3 months last winter. Best upgrade we had done.
The new owners loved it as well. (We bought a 27FB Eddie Bauer)

Curious why you went from 30FC to 27EddieBaur? We're thinking of going 26FC to 30FC and if we did, changing out the L sofa to reclining sofa as you did looks appealing...
Thanks, Dave

Hi, this is the exact same thing we are planning for our 2015 30' International. Were you able to keep the original storage compartment behind the original sofa?

I could have left it but took it out to have more room for the recliners to get closer to the wall. This also made them not block the entrance any The short end of the L bench was lengthened to go back to the wall and a small cushion was made to fit in the corner.

I no longer own the 2014 28 and miss the recliners.
