New to Airstream and need info

My wife and I are searching for a retirement travel trailer and love the Airstreams we have viewed.

We especially like the Classic M30 SO but have heard mixed reviews on the slide out models.

Any advise?

Welcome to the Forums! Several key bits of advice for new members with dreams..

1. Learn to use "Search" tab above on screen in blue bar. Type in a couple key words and see lots of threads with those words in them.. There are hundreds of thousands of posts here, and learning to search will help you find stuff already discovered.
2. Go to a Forum Rally or WBCCI Rally (they'll let guests show up) and talk to owners. You will learn good and bad in way no dealer can represent, but do talk to enough to get a balance of opinions..
3. Try looking through "Registry" and finding other owners of that model, and sending them Private Messages, which they might be more inclined to answer than some public postings. Those could also lead to a phone call and live conversation...

The slide units are heavy in the front, put a big load on the hitch/tow vehicle and have one more opportunity to leak than the non-slide models.. They can be a problem if the trailer frame is "torqued" using jacks to try to level it, since any twist in the frame can impact parallelism in the extension/retraction system. The Classics are heavier than the Safari or other trims, due to solid wood furnishings and fabric linings plus heavy carpeting, Corian counters, etc.. That said, people who own them seem to like them. If you have never towed a 30' long trailer, there is a bunch of learning involved, and you should take it very slow.. (And view Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz movie "The Long Long Trailer" once for laughs and some useful tips still valid today.. (You can't just turn this thin' around anywhere...)
