I also have a 25 t roadster and a 30 model A coupe, if we use the car trailer it is pulled with our dodge, 6.7 also for our airstream, no more ford pickups here, I still remember the 6 litre problems....and fords no help program......

I think not a lot of people know that Chevrolet car bodies made before about 1937(or so) were pretty much made entirely of wood with sheet metal tacked over.

Not many of them lived to be restored.

I knew where Dennis was going with his comment right away.....

Confirmed by a friend of my second cousin (he cuts the grass at the factory) this is to be the next limited edition tribute Aistream. They still have a few bugs to work out. I like all the outside storage. Sadly they appear to still be using plywood flooring.

My dodge has a plastic valve cover, oil pan and even a plastic fuel tank haven't found any wood yet, maybe it would be better, most of the wood in my model a is original and still solid...idid drive a new chevy duramax last week, it was very nice...there was wood under the passenger seat to raise it up for the owners short wife...

If a person is carful to maintain their trailer against dihydrogen monoxide intrusion plywood is actually a very good floor material.

This chemical is quite destructive and corrosive, not only to wood, but also to steel and even Aluminum to a lesser degree.

Most Airstream structural failings are due to long term and unabated dihydrogen monoxide exposure.

Do not forget the infamous Casters. Little buggers could totally destroy an Airstream plywood floor and cabinetry in a matter of hours.

Airstream Life article

If this is a hint of what the lower price AS might be, the WBCCI can charge admission for the meetings that will determine whether or not these trailers will be allowed in the club!
I love the comment about charging admission for the meetings! ha ha ha! We have a lot of fun in our unit joking with a couple who has a "plastic" motorhome. One member always sticks a sign "Lego-stream" over the Airstream logo. Another member has a painted Airstream, but everyone calls it the "Argosy." We actually do have 1 Argosy in our unit, but the owner also slips in to boler/fiberglass rallies.

Actually this article was in the works months and months before the announcement of the new less expensive Airstream. I took the picture of the big blue boler that you see in the article. I thought I knew so much about fibreglass trailers, but I learned a lot from Tom P's article. I really hope this is the route Airstream goes with the new trailer. I may need one to add to the collection. I think I need a bigger yard. Sigh.

I guess that this is the new lower cost AS:

or is it another April Fools?

Based on what I read, there will be a culture clash regarding build quality.

It looks like a very high-quality design.

It wouldn't suit my needs as a full-size RV, but as a weekender or for short trips, I like the concept and design.

My hunch is it would offer better water-tightness, more hail-resistance, and perhaps better insulation than current Airstreams do. Much as I like the look of the traditional aluminum Airstream, it costs too much and has too many negatives for my liking.

If Airstream can sell this for $30k, I think they'll have a winner bringing even more buyers to the brand.

OK, so without re-reading this entire thread.....wasn't this new model supposed to come in at a price point of around $25 to $30k? Unless that thing has a Zero Point Energy Device and can create H2O outta thin air, that's not anywhere near a $30,000 camper. Let's hope the press got it wrong.

Just my biased opinion.

Some pricing info. Starting at $30,000
Looks like a lot more delivered.

What a disappointment. I was hoping for a reasonably priced "Airstream Wannabe". Sad. Nothing to see here.

I have to give AS some credit. They knew that they needed something different and they have rearranged the furniture about as much as can be done to their standard shell. It was time to reach outside their closed box. Textbook standard open innovation technique to move the company forward.
