New less expensive Airstream

I don't know how that one even worked.
Very unsafe and something could break at any time.
Is it real or is it photoshopped?

FYI the first image from Post #894 also appears here:

And the Steve's Nova location linked in the above URL may be the original post from 2007 or so? But that site asks for a user name etc..

Guess the small station wagon is a Chevy Nova?

It appears that the photo/rig have not been invented IMO!

There are Michelin tires in the same size for this new unit...

Was wondering about this choice of tire, good to know you can get something else: GoodyearŽ ST255/55R18 Tires, Balanced. On the plus side, they do come balanced.

So is that it? The new less expensive airstream is a redesigned Basecamp? I guess with all the hype I was expecting something totally new.

I agree. I was also expecting something totally new, not a ten year old trailer that has a new interior. I'm not saying that the New Base Camp is not a good idea. It is. With all the hype, I was excited about seeing something revolutionary. This is a little disappointing, to say the least.

Basecamp update is very cool, no disappointment here, though of course spendy for the size, like all Airstreams so far.

What you're hoping for might be the Nest which they bought and are now "Airstreaming." Scheduled for next year?

This is just the first of several new Airstreams coming out to be followed by a new MOHO and of course the Nest. No matter what Airstream does there are going to be people that are disappointed and loudly complain. While the Basecamp II is not my cup of tea I think it will appeal to many millennials that have to have the newest flashiest wizzbangs.

My impression is the new BC is a little bigger than the original one. Whether there is a market for this concept now is questionable. It was a nearly total failure years ago. Airstream president Bob Wheeler was behind the original BC. He also seems to have been behind the substitution of OSB for plywood and some weakening of the basic structure in some trailers, both changes resulting in big losses for the company. He survived these failures.

Not being close to being millennial, I have little idea what they want, but I read many do not even want cars and I suspect even more don't want something that could tow anything. I wonder if Airstream has done market research? Will it rob customers who were considering a Sport model? And have the Sport models sold well?

No matter what Airstream does there are going to be people that support it and loudly praise the company. Will they buy the new models?

Hi from AZ. . . just an observation, but isn't Airstream competing with itself a lot with these 'small' trailers. ? Sport, Basecamp, Bambi, & new Nest (if it ever happens). . . seem a bit redundant to me.. . my dealer said they have already ordered 10 BC, but have a couple of unsold Sports sitting on their lot. . . it'll be interesting to see how this model line-up shakes out.. . . regards, Craig

Believe it or not, not everyone likes the Classic iconic shape of an Airstream trailer. Some people actually think Airstreams are ugly.
What do you do to reach those customers?
Design something that looks different.
Maybe even a Sport 16 is still too much weigh, too wide, and too tall for some vehicles?
Maybe some people want their camper to fit into their garage?
Personally I like the style of an Airstream, but everybody ain't me.
