Need a Place to go this winter! 5 months!

I need a place to go this winter. My wife and I are from Ohio and have made up our minds we are not going through another Winter. Last year we traveled all over the south from Florida to California and saw a lot of the country. We want to be more stationary this trip, but do want to mix it up a bit.

Staying one to two months at a time in one spot is perfect for us. Not opposed to boondocking for short stays, but probably would love the state parks and commercial campgrounds with hookups.

Our first choice is a stay in Palm Springs. We loved it the last time. We stayed at Coyote RV Park in Indio. Across the street from us were 4 vintage Airstreams for rent

We need some specifics. Park names, towns, and routes. My wife and I would love your help. We need to get booking soon and without a history of camping in the southwest, we are afraid to make choices that leave us there for a month with conditions we might not like.

We trust this community and would like your help!

I know there is a lot of threads similar to this. Just wanted to start a new one!

A lot depends on how much you want to spend.
Bookdock? 5 star resorts?
Most state parks have a 14 day limit, and if you're staying all winter that may be more moving than you like.
I will say, plan NOW!

Hi

The most affordable option is to go south of the boarder .... not sure the savings justifies the risk these days though.

http://www.yanksrvresort.com/rates/. $1120/month. It is windy, but new.

http://orangegrovervpark.com/facilities-services/rates/. call ~ 1200/mth?

http://www.gilroygarlicusarvpark.com/Pages/Rates.html. call ~ 1600/mth? a very nice park, great management, but close enough to Bay Area that commuters may be your neighbor.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

North of San Francisco gets more rain!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

https://www.atriversedge.com/rv-resort-rates-policies/ $575/month

http://cbrvresort.com/cannon-beach-rv-rates/. call ~$1000/month? This park is a very nice family oriented park. Not on the water, but close. Very shaded. One of our favorites, but we don't like sand.

Look at the Oregon coast threads for more options in this area.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a lot of options if your budget allows. The Pacific Coast is buffered from cold weather by the prevailing temperature of the Pacific Ocean. However, the rainy season may not be your preference. Less rain Sept to Jan. More Jan to April.

Good luck with your search. Pat

Try Mesa Spirit RV Resort in Mesa, Arizona. It is a Thousand Trails/Encore place, but they also have long term RV lots and stationary trailers for seasonal rent. Last time I looked, it was about $972 a month.

That was one we were leaning on, not because of cost, but we hear it can be very nice. We believe the safest option would be a small caravan. I do not know much about traveling in Mexico, good reason to ask first here if someone has done it.

We stayed at Yanks resort and would highly recommend it. You have to love the smell of cabbage though! Great dog park there and very nice operators. Early in the year (jan) it has a lot of rain.

They are constructing an air museum next door.

Wonderful area! We stayed in Big Bend for a week. You have to love being away from the city!!! Incredible dark skies. I took an 8" Celestron telescope with all the fixings (computer mount)and set up the first night. The wonderful dark skies were ruined by an object that came up in the east blocking the night stars. My timing was horrible. Full moon.

Here was a visitor the second night.

We love Morgan hill! (Near Gilroy RV park). Lots of great restaurants, bistros, and bars. We stopped cooking at one point!

If you want to move around a little I suggest a hot springs tour of the Eastern side of the sierra Nevada mountains CA. The wife and I have done hot springs adventures using all BLM land for short term stays on the East side of CA. In the winter time it is awesome!

I like Quartzsite, never been to Mexico, I think I would only caravan there these days.

The BLM has many places to stay for free in the S.W. area, also National Forrest lands are free dispersed camping.
However as stated here in the lower 48, most State Parks, National Parks and even BLM land only allow 14 day limits. That being said I have seen folks stay the entire season in places with no issues.

For prolonged stay options, it has been my experience that privately owned facilities will be more flexible with stay limit options.

We loved San Diego area in winter...close to Borrego Springs, the ocean, and the mountains if you want to ski...Borrego of course can be free boondocking and another "black sky" site out there...very nice. La Quinta Costco 45 min if needed... Last winter we spent time there, and also with our friends Tucson Picacho Peak resort. It was small and nice location for visiting AZ, NM, Mexico, Yuma, or CA desert areas like Borrego... think it was around $450/month...We looked at getting a permanent spot, but decided we could come/go pretty cheap with just a monthly fee if we wanted to do that.

Texas has lots of spots, but I am not a fan of the Texas coast...lots of wind and the sites I have seen/stayed at around Galveston were pretty populated and close together for long term monthly type sites.....Interesting to see what you end up doing.

Maybe this one is worth a look. Not sure what the weather is like on a regular basis. It rained a bunch to the North and cleared up for us from here and on to the South. However, that was late June.

http://www.americansunsetrv.com/rates/. $595/mth + electrical. It's close to the coast and while not really special, it is a nice park for a rest. The staff is friendly and they have a work program too.

This is one that I wanted to include in the prior post, but had a bit of an issue finding it. It is grass. The sites are back-in, but clear back to back, so you can pull through one site to park in the next one.

There is a Caravan planned for Mexico. Can't remember where I saw the notice. Maybe the Blue Beret. I would not consider the trip, but that's me. Pat
