We stayed at Palm Creek four years ago for a week using using a first time discount pass. We quite liked the place, particularly the golf course which really opened up the space.

I would also suggest Santee Lakes Recreational Preserve which is just outside of San Diego (it's the terminus of the light rail line which runs into downtown San Diego). Unfortunately they have been bumping up their prices since we last stayed there three years ago.

Try voyager rv resort Tucson Arizona. We have wintered 3 plus months at a time you can get multi month rates reasonable. Many activities and Tucson is a nice city to use as a base.

Re Mexico just south of Tucson into Mexico there are some great rv resorts and parks that are right on the water.

Quartzite is more of a novelty for us, you can boom dock and get water delivered as well as have your holding tanks flushed out by a service but, for us we wanted a town available. Quartzite is very popular though and it may click for you.

Just for reference:

I've wound up on hurricane damaged roads in the US that still were in poor shape 6 months later. Indeed 20+ miles in 4 wheel low through the sand / mud / water.... Trailer did fine. Tow vehicle did fine. Driver was ok. Co-pilot .... errr ..... took a day or three to calm back down

Boy, I can identify with Co-pilot stressing out when on rough roads or having to use 4WD in a ‘situation’. She loves the Tacoma, and doesn’t want to chance getting it bent or dirty...

She wasn't as worried about the truck as about the trailer bottoming out. As far as I could tell, it never did. I think there also *might* have been a bit of concern about coming to a point where the road was completely closed and having to back out for 15 miles.

GPS routing can be *so* much fun ....

I have found that, as long as it's dry, you *can* turn the AS around in the typical corn field. (after harvest time !!!!) Different trip, but the same GPS.

The main point being that these trailers *are* pretty rugged. As long as you take it slow, you can indeed get through some "unusual" routes. Plan to have enough "extra" time so you *can* slow down if you have to.

We are full time, we volunteer (volunteer.gov) this winter in NM for the US Fish and Wildlife Service. We work 3 days and have 4 days off they have places all over the US. You get free full hook-ups plus other perks depends on park.

I agree. Maverick RV is a good facility with a lot of opportunity to explore the Big Bend area. Another option is Lost Alaskan RV in Alpine, less expensive with good facilities and convenient to Big Bend as well as other attractions.
