I've gotten to know one of the salesmen at Bay Area Airstream, and while I wasn't in the market, I really wanted a look inside the Land Yacht when it first came out, so he gave me a tour. If it had just been me, I probably would have bought the thing. But my wife didn't like it, and I wasn't really in the market anyway. She didn't even know how much it cost; those were just her impressions from the tour. The salesman commented that my experience was pretty typical, in that men seemed to like it but women didn't. He had given a half dozen other couples a tour with the same result. I can sort of understand that: only two burners on the stove, no oven, limited counter space, etc., plus the general ambiance of a yacht, which might be more appealing to a man than a woman.

"What of HIS could you sell to do it?"

I like the way you think, sallye!
He offered up his golf clubs...but not the golf course membership.
Classic empty gesture, right?

Gentlemen thank you for the comments and sound advice.

Hubby spent yesterday afternoon watching the 8 minute film clip -set to music-on the Colonial Airstream site. Trailer porn, I think it's called.

All that naked aluminum, no doubt. Time for you to break out the aluminum foil lingerie, methinks…

WAIT for the 2016's before lusting after a new unit . The ducted a/c will be integrated into the shape of the end caps instead of being a blister on the roof center section.

But if your talented you could get a vintage unit and make it your own for way less and a few years of love put into it.

Oh no...the model on the lot in Baton Rouge is the 2016 model... NOW WHAT Glenritas?

And while my husband is quite the handyman I don't see him fixing up a vintage unit.

Taking all of this excellent advice under advisement.

Here you both are drooling over the Land Yacht ... and here I sit drooling ... wishing I could trade up from our Sport to your 2013 27' FB International. What's wrong with this picture?

Latest news...dealer in Mississippi making a better offer to order a new Land Yatch to arrive in 6 months.
Husband wants to order it but also wants me ON BOARD with the plan.

Is it Ship Ahoy or Overboard?
(if I knew how to put in the videos for those options I would...)

Ship ahoy or overboard? Tough question. Compared with the price of a vacation condo or some of the higher end motor homes, $140k doesn't seem like too much. Compared with the price of just about every other trailer out there, it seems like a lot. I really like the Land Yacht, and could see myself selling the house and using part of the proceeds to make up the difference between what my 23' FC is worth and the Land Yacht, and just traveling around living in the Land Yacht for a couple of years. If everybody was on board with it, I'd probably do it. But we're both having fun with the 23' FC, and I don't want to trade that for several years of trying to justify something that might not have been that smart of a decision to start with. Would be different if we both made a dumb decision, but I don't want to carry all the weight of it myself. Still, it's a beautiful trailer, and I'll probably always be dreaming about it.

If the difference in price between what you have, and the upgrade, is money that in 10 years will make no difference in your prospects/quality of life, then it is just a decision of is this how you want to spend that money?

Would be sweet to tailgate to those games in the new rig so maybe a win/win?

OTOH if you think that chunk of change is something that MAY make a real difference in quality of life in 10 years, then this goes into the LearJet/life in France category.

Lol as someone who splits his free time evenly between land and sea I can see how a fellow boater was drawn to the land yacht. As I said earlier I've been a diehard Class A-er but the new landyacht...yah...trailer porn summed it up perfectly. Lol I don't know what the LA dealer offered but I may be soon joining you in the '16 land yacht club...the next few days will tell. (I am a die hard Class A-er and a born salesmens...but I may have met my match) ...if literally is my Hatteras on wheels....ugh what to do what to do?
Also, money's meant to be spent...and the Land Yacht is a steal if you can drop them down to $130. IMHO

Happy trails!!

I just realized that I have been misspelling the name of the trailer this entire post-it's YACHT not Yatch! Jeez! Kind of you posters not to point out my error.

Anyway we are trading in the International and are getting a good enough deal that I will be able to hang onto the car, jewelry and even the football tickets for the time being.
LucasS you summed it up so well- a Hatteras on wheels!

As long as it's not a Mad Hatteras, you're good to go.

Congratulations, and enjoy your Land Yacht!

Of course, we'll need photos once you take delivery.
